I spun a rod bearing and trying to decide whether to disassemble my stock 7-bolt motor and bring bare block, crankshaft etc to local machine shop and let them do their thing and also have them assemble it -OR-buy a short block and get it shipped. Although removing/tearing down the shortblock is not a problem for me, I don't know of any machine shops locally that work on 4g63's so i'm worried about winding up with quality work. I also don't know where to buy a known good shortblock but do see them on ebay for $1500 shipped for a stock one. (I'd have to send my core so that's probably more for shipping and my crankshaft is bad so I'd be charged extra for that)
So, how much am I looking at to have a shop work over my bare block, crank, etc and then assemble it for me -or- does anyone know of good stock shortblocks for reasonable price? Which of these options make more sense? This is for stock application and I'm running free/cheap mods at 15 lbs boost and would always be below 20 lbs for sure. Thx!
