hey i plan on doing both, build a stronger engin with new internal parts and put a stage 2 turbo kit. my engin has 135k miles on it and i just recently had my head rebuilt(does this even really matter to the question...) anyways just curious about what u think would be smarter.. Get a turbo system installed first and run like 5 psi or wait and build up my engin first.. then install a turbo system and boost more psi

With your mileage I would build the bottom end first. Just to be sure have a compression check done, if everything looks okay then you should be safe to run low boost on the stock engine internals. But, again, with as high of miles as you have I really would play it safe and build the motor first.

save some trouble VTengines.com.....8.8 comp 420a shortblock cant beat it!!!! Then turbo that bad boy...dont forget some headwork...clean it up...and maybe springs and cams....just a suggestion

hey midnight i looked at that site, and the 420a u were talking about. How much boost could that thing handle right of the VT shop?

Indo, I just took a look at that site (vtengines.com). Those bottom ends they sell look already ready to handle whatever boost you can throw at them. They use CP Pistons and Eagle Rods which are both very sturdy components.

yeah they are excellent blocks....the only reason i didnt get one is because i didnt have that cash at the time...but they are great...IMO CP is the best pistons you can buy

Turbo first. If you like it and feel the need for more then build you bottom end. If you don't have the money to buy a new motor you might want to wait to turbo. You never know how long these things last.

im just curious as to why you wouldnt do it all in one shot that way you wouldnt have to worry about it later on? even if you dont bring it over 10 pounds your engine will last a while longer and you wont have anything to worry about:dsm:

if you turbo that 9.6 compression engine...its like russian roulette. Seriously, your car was not built to handle that boost. I have been thru it, i know. After I turbod my motor it ran good on 96,000 mile internals at 7psi. But after awhile it will begin to hurt trust me...build that motor with 8.8 comp pistons...you wont lose much bottom end, then turbo that mother f'er LOL
