Budget head rebuild

Hey i have a 2g head that i am rebuilding i got the ARP headstuds, Cometic Head gasket... i want to build the head but i am running low on cash i would like to know what is the important stuff to buy.... should i get the valves w/ guides and adjuster or just the valves.. springs and retainers or just the springs... valve seals? cams? i am in the dark... i get a little ticking but i am not sure if i should get the lifter they are expensive.

If you want to get by the cheapest way I would take your head to a machine shop. Have them do a valve job (resurface the valve seats and faces), check the valve guides for wear (there probably fine), have the check your valve springs (those are also more than likely fine too.) And definitely replace your valve seals. You can get new lifters to fix your tapping issue but it’s not a must. If you want a little more performance for cheap, pick up one of those “do it your self port and polish kits” and clean up your intake ports. All the machine work including valve seals and a porting kit should end up costing you less than 200 bucks.
