Brode UICP/1g BOV install - too much boost now?

I installed my Brode UICP and 1g BOV yesterday, and my boost increased from about 11 psi (if I was lucky) to spikes somewhere around 20 psi and holding steady somewhere in the 15-16 range. Since it's not holding boost over the 15-16 or so, should I worry about the spikes?

At this point you don't have a boost controller listed. That should be your next step. Boost spiking up to that point with a completely stock fuel system can be damaging to your car as you aren't running the proper mixture. I did the search for you and this topic is reviewed extensively. Enjoy! =

If you do not have the proper fuel control, yes you should worry.

Thanks for the replies. I will get a boost controller on there ASAP, and that should hold the boost steady and prevent spikes?

Is it normal to see boost spikes when upgrading the uicp? I wasn't aware that this would be a problem and am now hesistant on getting a new uicp without a boost controller first.

On the 2g's the Compressor Bypass Valve (BOV) acts like a boost limiter and leaks off the spike (this is also why by just replacing the UIC pipe is not enough and you have to get a new BOV in order to get more boost). Once you have a BOV that doesn't leak at low levels you can and will get spike and that is why you need a new boost controller (since you replaced the factory one ).
