breaking up under boost

so I just put my turbo back in, hooked everything up and I took it for a drive. As soon as I get into boost I can hear almost like a supercharger whine. and then at like 4500 rpms it just breaks up and I cant go farther than that.. I checked all my lines and they're all connected.. what could be causing this?

Sounds like what happened to me after a turbo swap once. I forgot to tighten one of the couplers on the intercooler piping. It was still on, but leaking a lot. Sounded like a supercharger. I would suspect a boost leak, or the blades of your turbo are hitting the compressor housing because of excess shaftplay in the turbo.

my turbo has no shaft play so that isn't it. im getting a new hose to connect the j pipe and im doin a boost leak test tomorrow.. ill see if that fixes it thanks

Yeah sounds like a boost leak.
