Ok everybody, I just got my slowboy racing stage 3 port and polished head installed along with crower titanium valve springs and retainers, crower stage 2 turbo cams, unorthodox racing cam gears, huge accel injectors, cometic head gasket, and arp head bolts. HOW DO I BREAK MY CAR IN WITH THE NEW HEAD?? Should I just get it tuned at 10lbs for the 1st 1,000 miles or what??? I donno want to blow or do damage to the head so I need your guys help :thumb: :sneaky: :dsm:

WTF thats the exact opposite of what I was thinking, hmmm... thanks for the advice though.:dsm:

ya......... I just recently had my motor rebuilt, and I had the boost at 8-9 psi, and didnt shift past 4k rpms, for the first 500 miles, and at the first 500 miles, I changed the oil, but thats what I do to break my motor in.

the one thing that you should try NOT to do is keep the rpm's steady while driving.(ex: highway cruising). Try to vary the rpm's to make sure that everything seats properly in the head.

thanks fellas , you guys have been a ton of help. I would have thought that cruising would have been good for it but now I see why i should vary the rpms and drive around town for the first 500 miles or so or drive to school on the highway during traffic hoursROFL Sucha paradox

I dont agree with this, maybe you shouldnt hold it at 3k or above, but low cruising speeds is fine, I kept mine in low rpms whenever I can, once I hit 5th gear, I would cruise at 2500rpms, no higher.

I worked at a Company that would dyno big V8 motors on an engine stand. Im talking like 632, 540's and whatnot. Anyways they would break them in on the dyno by just making a pass all the way up the rpm rand like you would do a chassy dyno. Lets say the motor made 500 hp. They would do another few runs, all the sudden the Rings would seal.....the Motor now makes 530 hp.

Dont be a pansy, put the pedal to the metal. LOL

If you didn't do anything to the block then theres no reason to have a real break in period. I've always been told that on the head, when getting new cams and what not to just hold the rpms around 2500-3000 for a bit, and then your good to go.

Ding ding ding! Thankyou. Breaking in a WHOLE ENGINE is alot different than just the head.

exactly, not to mention that if you're breaking in the motor, beating on it hard is the best course anyway. ;)

This isn't an engine break-in thread. There of enough of those arguments already.

it really does not matter how high he revs it, of course not at wot and i would suggest not above 5k. if you cruise at a steady rpm you should be fine but a constant rpm can wear the new parts a certain way and they may not seat properly. by varying rpms you are loading the engine and making sure that the new parts adjust to the engine properly. this is a fact.

Hhahahaha, being soft on it is inevitably unavoidable becuase, as you are stating, my mechanic will halfto tune the engine and will more then likely rev those grands :dsm: I still feel like it's a :nono: though .
