okay so i figured i would just post all of the problems i have and see if anyone can help me out with some of them.


1) the compression on my engine is terriable. cylinder 1 has 160, 2- 171, 3-172, 4 - 190. What could be causing this problem? I have only had the car a few days and i dont know too much.

2) I know i need new injectors. im planning on upgrading to 660cc or larger, I already have a plenty good fuel pump, but what else do I need to do to make sure my engine is getting the fuel it needs.

3) The wiring between by boost controller, turbo, and all the other things its connected to is all kinds of wrong. Does anyone know of a guide to setting these up correctly and cleanly?

im sure more will come as issues continue to arise

Did the car have some headwork done? If so, It could be a knicked valve?

Fuel pump, Adjustable fuel pressure regulator? or nothing depending on what your goals are. Need more info!

By wiring I'm assuming you're talking about vacuum lines? If so, we need to know what kind of boost controller you have!

The standard compression on a 2g 4G63 is 178 and the service limit is 133 so your numbers really aren't that bad except for the spread between cylinders 1 and 4. I believe 14 psi is the maximum recommended spread between cylinders.

The biggest thing in something to tune with. What are you using/planning on using? Also depending on your pump (255 or higher) an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (AFPR).

One line from the wastegate to the MBC, the other from the MBC to the compressor housing or j-pipe (as close to the turbo as possible). Whatever you do, do NOT "T" into the BOV line.

I have the same MBC, there is nothing wrong with it.
 
Mostly im worried about the compression, that and a massive oil leak coming from the oil cap, but hopefully replacing that will fix that.

I would replace the oil cap gasket but I'd be more worried about why it is leaking. My guess is boost getting in the crankcase due to a leaking PCV valve. Check the valve and if it's bad replace it. Good or bad I would also get one of these check valves and install it between the PCV valve and intake manifold.

Its currently being tuned by a piggyback system with a walboro 255 pump, prbably going to upgrade to DSMlink or AEM soon.

Looks like it has been teed between manifold, BOV, and wastegate.

Ill be ordering a catch can/PCV valve/vaccum hose kit tomorrow.
hopefullly that will solve some problems.

Well the spread is a problem, its double the limit. Try a leakdown test in cylinder 1 and see what happens.

If you plan on tuning yourself, I would go with 'link. If you want to pay a shop for everything, then either one (honestly I would still go with 'link).

Fix it following the link I posted. It's called "the best way" for a reason.

I would just add "check valve" to that list.

OK, so i checked that PCV valve and there is no way its been replaced, if ever, recently. The valve was threaded and came right out when i tried to unscrew it.

That probably isnt a good sign for engine health.

Am i going to need to replace my piston rings or anything like that in order to fix that compressin spread?
Im having a mechanic do a leakdown and compression test hopefully monday so I guess I will know more then.

One more dumb question haha, I need injectors. but is it safer to run 750cc witha regulator kit and the 255 pump or should i stick to the 650cc. BTW, I took your advice on the dsmlink, ill be ordering that as well.

So you're saying the PCV valve was loose? That's not a big deal, you could just tighten it if it is working. Did you check to see if it is operating as a one way valve like it should?

You are correct, you will find out more after the leakdown test. It's too early to make speculations without more information.

You said your goal is 300 hp, 650's should be fine. However if you are running DSMlink, you can use as large an injector as you want. I recently asked Tom Dorris, the owner of ECM Tuning (maker of dsmlink) about injectors for my 14b setup. I could have used 650's sure, but I plan on upgrading to a 20g in the future and wanted to avoid buying injectors twice. This is what he told me:

"I would recommend anything from the FIC 850s to 1150s. The size of the turbo will have nothing to do with the streetability of the injectors. ECMLink compensates for injector sizes directly in the fuel injection code of the ECU. There's nothing to do with airflow there at all.

FWIW, I've run FIC 2150s on my own 16G car for several months. They were the best idling and most well behaved injectors I've ever owned, but they were *clearly* over kill for my turbo. I only removed them because a good friend of mine need them. They will be going back on shortly.

The point being, that the streetability of the injector is a property of the injector itself. You don't need to worry about an injector being "too big" for your turbo."


So while 650's will be "enough" for your goal, you can still run a larger injector to give you room for any future plans. This seems like a bit of a problem.

As far as injectors, I think I will take your advice and run at least 1000cc, after I get my DSMlink.

Im still feeling overwhelmed haha. Its like what do I do first, so many questions.

You keep saying that the PCV valve is threaded into the valve cover but it is supposed to be threaded into the VC. :confused: Do you mean to say that the VC threads are stripped? That's a bit of a problem. If that is the case I would just get another VC, you can get them used pretty cheap. Another option would be to tap a larger hole and get a threaded adapter.

Just take it one step at a time. It will take a while to fix everything but it's worth it. You made the right first choice, joining this site and seeking advise. Read lot, ask lots of questions, and you'll get it!
 
that is what i meant, the VC is stripped so ill try and pick up a powdercoated one sometime soon

Okay, so my TIAL bov is teed into the manifold/wastegate.
what is the proper way to wire this? searches didnt really yield too much information on this.
