I was first doing my research to make sure that i will do this correctly. So after I finished reading this article I go to try and attempt to put the SS brake lines on my car... After the tires are off and its up on jacks, I notice that the top nut (that is supposed to be a 10mm) was already completey stripped.... I would like to know if there is anything that I can do to put my SS lines on...? Any information would help. Like do I have to cut that one off and than find a piece to put on the hard brake line?

It doesn't look like there is enough tubing to cut and re-flare the line. The fitting will be longer than the remaining line it appears.

That doesn't mean you can't try it before making the new line(you cannot flare the ribbed tubing). I would go to the parts store and get the exact same fitting as the "cut off, rounded one". There are many fittings that look similar but may not work. Make sure to use a double flare also.

What does that line go to? It is possible for you to make a new line from the next connection down the line.

I think getting it loose with vise grips and re-tightening with them is not the right answer. But this is an option for getting the fitting aprart.

K. Sorry the picture is from a 1g it looks like. I have a 2g and the hard lines come in from just above the top nut. The top nut is the one that is stipped....... I dont have a picture from my car and that is the only one that i could find. See if my drawing can help anyone..... I will try to take a picture of my set up..... any help of suggestions would be greatly appreciated..... I did try to use vise grips to get a hold of the top nut but they would grip it because i sware you not it is really stipped......

I was just looking around online and this is what i believe that the hard line looks like for that part that is stripped. its a really thin hard line with an adapter at the end that looks like that. The only problem is it is stripped.

Did you remove the clip holding the brake line in there first?

I stripped my brake nut (LOL) a little bit too but how badly is it stripped? Could you find a flare nut/line wrench that grips the side of the nut instead of the corners?

Otherwise, yeah penetrating oil and vice grips are the way to go. Hopefully you'll never have to replace your stainless lines.

I completely understood what you said from the first description. :thumb: I am not familiar with the 2g brakes line so you are going to have to be the judge, unless you get some pictures.

It still may be possible to re-flare the tubing. Only if there is enough straight line that the fitting will go on with the double flare on the end. Check to make sure the line will bend to meet were the stainless line comes in and the clip attaches. Don't forget to put the new fitting on the line before flaring!

If this is not a possibility you will have to make or buy a new hardline for a permanent fix. If the vise grips did not work I would look for a smaller set of vise grips, I am betting you used the larger size.

Actually, if it works out that there is enough line left if you cut above the 10mm on the hardline all you would have to do is re-flare and not even get the fitting apart since you are installing stainless lines, and the factory line is what the fitting is stuck in.

Awsome. Thank you. I will try this weekend to cut above the nut and put a new fitting and re-flare the hard line. Thank you all for, all your help.
