What's up everyone, I took a DSM break for a few years when I joined the military... but now I make okay money after getting promoted, so I picked up my 95 GSX about a month ago. It came with the following mods:

Greddy 18g turbo kit
ACT 2600
hallman MBC
boost gauge
greddy type RS bov
NGK plug wires
some other minor crap that isnt really performance related

I never really got into my previous DSM, it became a hassle before I could mod it and I was too young and broke to deal with it.

After fixing my oil leak, which I hope isn't too serious... what do you think my first few steps should be?? I plan on getting an alarm system installed immediately, due to the fact that the factory one is out of order right now.

I've got a few hundred bucks leftover every 2 weeks or so to mess around with... any ideas on NECESSARY stuff to get started?

well first ill fix all minor things like belts, fluids, suspension, then you should get an exhaust done, then some kind of data loger.the best way i think is to go with dsm link,i know its not that cheap like some other ones, but it worth of money im planing to get the dsmlink after ill done my exhaust ,tranny and cluth

yeah i just fixed all the belts, havent really checked most of the fluids yet... im about to though, i had (well i thought) a decent tuneup done when i bought it because it was just over 60k... and now i have a damn oil leak which i have yet to identify.

nah i think it might be my valve cover... but not sure, waiting to register my car on wednesday before i drive down to a coin-op and wash out my engine bay real good then find the leak a few miles down the road

some fuel upgrades like a fuel pump, injectors and fuel system management and an upgraded intercooler would be good mods after all the maintenance is done

If I were you I would also replace the PCV valve on the valve cover. And a timing belt along with everything else, maybe? And definatelly a front mount, as mentioned before.

with those mods that he got he doesn't need a Front mount, he even dont have an exhaust and fuel system,so FMIC wouldnt be his next step

Agreed! The stock side mount can handle quite a bit before a FMIC becomes a neccesity, just be sure to clean it really well to maximize its efficency. Focus on building your supporting mods first then follow with the frount mount.

ok so would this be a good bet for my next few items (after maintenance and alarm system):

2.5" thermal turboback
cold air intake
replace minor stuff (pcv valve, vaccum tubes, etc)
walbro fuel pump

and then take it from there?? i haven't got too much cash to work with... hopefully the holidays will be good to me ;)

Provided your maintenance is up to date, it's time to raise the boost on your 18G. Start with an upgraded fuel pump, and at least 550 injectors. You'll need a separate fuel computer to keep those injectors under control (think Apexi AFC) an EGT gauge to tune your fuel computer, and at least a manual boost controller. It's good you have such a large turbo already installed, but without these supporting mods you won't be able to get any real power. :dsm:

Haven't seen anyone ask this yet: What are your plans for the car?

This decision drives every mod you will ever plan to make.

Will it be a:

Quarter Mile Car

Road Race Car (Not Street racing, we're talking track here)

Auto Cross Car (driving around cones like in my profile picture <-----)

Show Car

Daily Driver with some spirit (i.e. a hobby to tinker with on weekends)

If you plan on being able to turn well I'd say get your leak fixed along with any other maintenance and go for a good set of wheels/tires and then a good suspension. You'll get huge benefits from those for all categories listed above. WHICH suspension and wheels you buy depends largely on the area of focus. Low profile tires are great for cornering but give up some grip for drag racing. Do your research and you'll be much happier in the end.

thanks i didn't even think about that considering my options... i guess i'm planning on just having it be my daily driver with some balls for right now, looking for somewhere between 300-350hp. I'm planning on the evoIII big 16g being the base of that operation.

No problem. Just take your time and figure out what you want to do. It'll save you a ton of money and hassle.

The E3 16g is a good turbo and will have a high resale value if you ever want to switch out. It should be good for a long time.
