Bosst Leak Test Results

Hey guys just a quick question. I made a boost leak tester hooked it up to a bike pump and went ahead with it. At first I started with 10 psi then 15 then 20 and finally ended up pushing 40 through it. I heard no escaping air form the usual places such as intercooelr pipes, bov flange, throttle body etc. My car is going in to get tuned and I just wanted to make sure that the noise I would hear was goign to be apparent ### i heard nothing. People have told me leaks would be rather obvious. Is this so?

You're lucky you didn't blow the seals on your turbo pushing 40psi into it. In the future, pump it up a few psi higher than the highest boost you plan to run. But it sounds like your intake is solid. How long did it take you to pump up your intake with a bike pump?

I was wondering the same thing
The noise will most definitely be noticable though, a sort of hissing noise is how I/everyone else describe it.

When I did my first boost leak test, I couldn't even make pressure with a bike pump.

The best way to test is to verify how LONG it holds boost for. If it goes up to a certain point and doesn't hold it for 30 seconds, it still has leaks. Get a friend to help and as mentioned above, never go more than a few psi over the boost level you'll be running.

I find this hard to believe, 40 psi with a bike pump, blow by alone will probably leak air faster than you can bike pump it, there must be some mis-understanding here. I only have one question for the thread starter, do you have a 40 psi boost gauge?

Yes I had a bike bump that is one of the stand up ones and the gauge read 40 psi at one point.

I strongly suggest realtime comparison between that gauge and your boost gauge but 20psi would be good enough for verification.
