i put some Bosch Platinum 4 Spark Plugs in my N/T 420A eclipse a wile back and just recently a mitsubishi mechanic told me that i shouldnt of put them in because they will cause more problems than good. i have always had problems with my car so i wasnt shure if it was the spark plugs or not. so i replaced the alternator yesterday because the mechanic tested it and told me that my old alternator was putting out very low voltage. so i put the new alternator in and my car seams to be doing better but still when i run at an idle speed it surges. so i was just wondering if anybody else has had a problem like this or if anybody else has heared about not putting the platnum 4 spark plugs in the 420A engine. :thumb: :dsm:

Don't put 'em in. An honest dealership told me the true story behind these plugs. They are compatible with your engine but they produce too much of a spark for them to work properly. Autozone's "pushing" these plugs to make more money. I put NGK V-Power plugs in mine and haven't had a problem since.

OK read here and read carefully. Are BOSCH plugs mentioned in your owner's manual? Go ahead and look it up. I'll wait.

Aha...yes, that's what I thought. NGK and Denso are mentioned, but no BOSCH, eh? So why don't we just go with what Mitsubishi recommends? :thumb:

My father use to sell car parts
If I ever buy anthing but NGK plugs he sends me back where I got them.

i've never heard any problems with running the +4's in our cars at all so long as they're nt. under pressurized conditions or when using nitrous the pre-igntion can cause heat build up on the prongs and sometimes one or two will fail and fall into the cylinder which will mess everything up.

i oridginaly bought the Platnum +4 plugs from kregans. and when i went baqck there today and asked for some spark plugs they suggested that i get the platinum +4 plugs. so i laid it out on him about trying to sell me something that shouldnt be put in my engine. so i ended up buying some NGK plugs. wile replacing the plugs a come across something elses that boggles my mind... i replaced my Ignition Coil a wile back. today i looked at my stock ignition coil and i noticed that the cylinder 1 rod was all burnt out and coroded wile the rest looked fine. then when i was replacing my spark plugs i noticed that my MSD Ignition Coil that i put on also had they corosion and looked burnt on the cylinder 1 rod. anybody know what this could meen? :thumb: :dsm:

Put in Bosch +4 plugs over 30K miles ago.....they have never been an issue.

I have actually heard stories from a friend who works at an auto parts store that some of the bosch plugs are indexed/catalogued incorrectly. There have been a few times when people would buy these plugs and wind up stripping the threads on the head because the plugs were a total mismatch. We live in a society whose entire belief system is based on "the more the better" and that is exactly what bosch is playing into. I mean people see a plug with one prong and another with four and automatically think that the one with four prongs is obviously better. NGK period.

Not necessarily true. I bought the Bosch +4 because I'm lazy. I figure if I don't have to change my plugs for 100K miles, that's a good thing. And if the plugs are going to be in an engine for that many miles, chances are good that a side electrode or two, or three may become contaminated with carbon.

NGK period? Why?

ive been running +4's in my car for a long time..this is in my n/t...and honestly i love them....call me crazy but my gas mileage improved from them....ive had no problems with them...for the turbo though its nothing but ngk's HOWEVER, i just took this pic today... and this is after only 500 miles... this is the ngk

This discussion about the best spark plugs to use reminds me of a similar debate I go thru on an almost daily basis.....

I sell electrical supplies for a living. When a customer comes in looking for a loadcenter and circuit breakers, they most often request ones made by "Square D." Why Square D? Because "everyone knows" that Square D is the BEST. Square D is considered the industry standard as far as residential (and commercial) loadcenters and panelboards are concerned. But here's the funny part, we also sell loadcenters and circuit breakers by a company called Cutler-Hammer. Cutler-Hammer products meet the same exacting standards as Square D. Plus, Cutler-Hammer uses a COPPER bus in its panels while Square D uses ALUMINUM. And yet, when you explain the superiority of a copper bus vs. an aluminum bus, the idiots still want a Square D loadcenter because Square D is "the best." UGH!!!!!!!

More times than not, it's all about perception.

Your owners manual also recommends that you use ONLY GENUINE MITSUBISHI REPLACEMENT PARTS. So, when your battery craps out, do you replace it with a Mitsubishi battery? How about your coolant? Oil? Oil Filter? Air filter? Do you replace them all with GENUINE MITSUBISHI REPLACEMENT PARTS?

Not always but I have tried different plugs myself and NGKs have been the ones that I stuck with. Spark plugs are a critical part in the engine. But I still use mitsubishi parts for all of the above. I at first went straight to Autozone and asked for the plugs for my car and they gave me plugs that werent even threaded correctly. So from now on I listen to no one but DSMTuners.com board for all my needs. And NGKs will be the majority, I guarantee. Either a 7 or a 6 degree depending on turbo or no.

I say if you notice hesitation 9 out of 10 it will be ignition related, usually plugs, at least thats been the case with my NT.

As for not changing plugs for a 100k, Id be a little skeptical. I would still check my plugs at least every couple months so I might as well lay a few more bucks down and replace plugs while Im in there if needed. It doesnt pay to be lazy with our cars. They are finicky!

As for people and brands, yeah people tend to go with what they know works. It is sad because there is better out there sometimes, but people feel security in what they can understand, which is that their best friend told them "BRAND" was the one to go for. They arent likely to listen to a salesman over their friend. Just the way it goes. Peace! :thumb:

i had bosch +2 and they worked ok for bout 10k miles, then i switched to ngks and now i get better gas mileage.i've herd really bad things bout the +4's like the tip falling into the combustion chamber too and also carbon buildup right at the tip of the electrode gets held by the 4 prngs and doesn't let there be a good combustion. i like the ngks or champions for our cars.just my .02
