My car has always boost spiked like crazy for as long as i have had it. For instance, my setting of 15psi would give me 20+ boost spike, hardly safe. After trying EVERYTHING i finally found the problem, bleeder boost controllers are terrible, I had never realized that the boost controller that came on my car was a turboxs bleeder type controller. My friend gave me a homemade ball and spring boost controller and there is a HUGE difference, 1psi boost spike, thats it! Also, i had my boost controller hooked up to a boost source on my compressor housing of my turbo, i now have it teed off of my blowoff valve vacuum hose. Anyone with a bleeder type controller should discard it immediately! :thumb:

I have a bleeder one and i have the same problem. Whats the difference between the two? Just one has a bleeder hole and one doesnt? So if i seal up the hole i should be good to go?
No, thats not how it works, its two different types of boost control, one allows some air to escape to the atmosphere, the other restricts the path of the air. More or less if you have a bleeder valve, it remains a bleeder valve. A ball and spring is totally a different design.

I'm glad to hear that about your situation. I've always run my boost controller from my compressor housing as well, and I spike at about 15 on my FP Big28 when I have it set to about 12 or 13 or around there. I've always thought it would be best to tee off the controller to the blow off valve to manifold line, but so many people were saying it doesn't matter that I just decided to leave it. I say screw that!!! :p Tomorrow morning I am changing my controller boost source to the manifold pressure!!! Thanks for your story!!

I had done a search and found nothing about bleeder valves, i thought i should start a post with the bleeder boost controller in the title, im glad it helped a couple people, here are two pictures comparing a bleeder valve and a ball and spring, notice that they are not specific setups to our car, just generalized.

In addition to this post i would like to add the following: with my boost controller rerouted, there is a nipple on the turbo compressor housing that is not doing anything. I found that if you route this to the lower nipple on your greddy blowoff valve, then you get a much better functioning blowoff valve, sounds nicer, totally eliminates flutter in half throttle in all gears, possibly the best mod i have done to my car since the upgrade turbo! I will be posting this in the tech guide sometime soon! Makes a huge difference in driveability!:thumb:
