:dsm: Hey guys,
I just performed a boost leak test on my car and I would like some of your expertise. I pressurized the system with a bike pump and I noticed that I could barely push my pressure gauge past 1 psi. I heard a leak of air coming out of my throttle body ( I think it is the gasket). Anyway, have you heard of throttle gaskets leaking before? i can imagine that they do but I would just like to know if anyone else has experienced it before.
I did the leak test because I noticed i'm only pushing 13 psi instead of my norm of 15-16. thanks for any help! :dsm:

Yep, mine did. Most people seal it up with a thin layer of RTV between the two surfaces. I prefered to order two real gaskets and seal it that way (one between the elbow and the throttle body, another between the throttle body and the intake manifold).

Also, if you have bad leaks, a bike pump might not have enough "umph" to find all of the leaks. If you take it to a shop with a regulated compressor, checking for leaks is much easier.

Like psychlow said, the bike pump isn't gonna do you any good. I love my $50 Walmart compressor. :)

Could be gasket, vacuum hoses, BISS o-ring or tb shaft seals.

I also suggest disconnecting the factory bcs and disabling pcv for the pressure test.

Yeah, they can leak. I use the high-temp RTV instead of gaskets on that. The throttle-body shaft seals can be leaking, too.

Using a bike pump is pretty rough. You can get a cheap-but-works 22-gallon compressor from Harbor Freight for $150. At the worst, getting an air tank from Walmart and filling it up at a gas station will give a couple minutes of 20psi. With how bad these cars fall on their face with even small leaks, I consider one or the other mandatory.

im a little late on this subject but im curious as to how you did the test? .. using a bike pump?

ok ... but how did you do it .. since thats what i was asking :thumb:
