Ok so I bought some sideskirts, I was told theye are the 2GA ones, well they were the 2GA Eclipse ones, I wanted the 2GA Talon twistie ones. Weak sauce. It was my fault and not the sellers..

Anyway I searched here and allot of people said that the clips from Autozone etc would work, well I did that and they fit like shit. I used the wrong ones I think.

So I want to do it right, I need to know the part number of the clips that the factory uses. I dont have a Mitsu. dealer around, so I have to order them. Also I see that the skirts have some kind of double sided tape on them? Do the skirts come with that stuff on them from the factory, like pre installed or can you buy it seperate, if so is there a part number for that stuff?

Also any other tips would be great.

Thanks
Josh

i have a 2ga talon and i put 2gb eclipse side skirts and front bumper on mine.
i used the autozone clips and they worked great.
but i did not use the mistubiti ones.i belive they came out of the infiniti box.
try taking one into autozone and matching them. as i have had mine on for months and they work great

Does anybody have a pic of the factory clip, so I can have an idea of what they look like when I get into the zone at Autozone?

I didnt have any on my car or with the sideskirts when I bought them.

I need some 2GA Talon sides in black if anybody has some.
Hell any color might work, ill paint em.

Edit:
Talon Tsi31 Do you still have your 2GA sides? Are they the ones with the DOHC turbo on them and look kinda twistie?

Thanks
Josh

I've been Googling for clips for way too many hours to find the 2gb talon door strake clips. I think I finally found them, but I have NO idea if they are the same clips that you need. The strake clips slide into a rectangular slot in the underside of the strake, then you pop them through the hole in the door. The link below has a pic of the clip (the black one, not the white one). I have a broken one, and it looks just like the picture (except it has no tip), so I'm hoping that's the right one. Since only 2gb talons have the strakes, I'm wondering if the eclipse skirt clips might be different. Someone who's seen the clips might have to chime in.

Thanks bro. Yes searching for these clips is a pain in my asses! I didnt have any on my car when I bought it, so I have no idea what to look for, as far as a non OEM option. I found lots of sites that sell fasteners and what not, just not sure if they are what I need.

But ya those black ones look like the trick. I imagine that they are the same for the strake and the skirts etc.

Thanks
Josh

This might be a little late, but I just got the ability to finally start posting. I hope I don't make anyone mad but just want to put in my 2 cents.

Here's what I did to install OEM 2GA skirts on my RS

It's not hard to put them on. All you'll need is a drill, bolts and some 3M tape (Buy the good stuff from a body shop) If you need to paint it, take them to a shop to have it done especially if you get 95-96 GST or GSX skirts b/c of the grey stripe on those skirts on the bottom half of it..

What you need to do first after you get the sideskirts back (Assuming you needed them painted) is to prep them. First thing is take the sideskirts and look at the edges of them. You might see some black tape along the edges of them. Now you're gonna need to take the old tape off first. Now make sure that you clean the points on the body and sideskirts b4 trying to install them. Also the surfaces need to be dry after cleaning =D.

Next you should ask for help from someone to test fit the skirts to the car. After you do that, apply the 3M tape to the sideskirts edges and them press them firmly into the body of the vehicle, making sure to keep pressure on the points where the sideskirts hit the body and underside so it adheres correctly. Do this for about 2 minutes just to make sure it stays on, although you shouldn't have a problem if you cleaned the areas throughly

When you let go of the skirt, it should be stuck onto the body. Now what I did is jacked up the car and drilled holes into the underside of the body using the sideskirts holes as a template on where to drill. Make sure you use a drill bit that is a bit smaller than the bolt you use to mount the skirt into place. Remember that you can always make the hole bigger if need be. After you drill the holes on the underbody of the vehicle, put the bolts into place and voila, a mounted sideskirt.

Now if you want to run door caps with the skirts, you're gonna have to drill holes into the door I believe if you use the OEM plastic clips. Or you could probably get away with using 3M tape to hold them on.

I personally like the look w/o caps as it looks kind of aftermarket, but still OEM to those that know our DSM's.

Good luck on your venture when you plan to do this.

Hope this helps

Ya thats a great post, but I already have the holes. My car didnt have skirts when I bought it, but had the holes, its like somebody stole them off it or something. I need to reinstal mine, with some good double sided tape and the OEM style clips. Plus I bought the wrong skirts, I got the ones from a 2GA eclipse with the grey stripe, looks not to cool, but Ill paint em a.nd go with it. I dont want to waste anymore money on skirts and all that jazz. Time to do some maintenece

Did you find the strakes for the doors? Or are you talking about the skirts only? If those clips work out for you, let me know; I'm waiting on you to spend your money and see if they work before I buy some :p

Ya I think I am going to just get those OEM lookalikethingamagigas and see how it works..

For the clips that secure the factory rocker mouldings to the car, just buy them from mitsu. Use P/N MB696120, and they may come in pacakges of more than one. When working at a bodyshop, we had a huge cabinet full of all types of clips and retainers for cars; there were hundreds of different ones. After painting my car, I looked in the bins for the right clip to replace my old ones, and none of the ones we had fit very well. I just spent a few dollars at the dealership to install the rocker mouldings as they were from the factory. If anyone else needs clips for various parts on the car, let me know and I can get you the part number for you. I use aftermarket clips for some things, but for this stuff I highly recommend OEM.

P.S. Good job for installing the mouldings correctly, and not the typical zipe-tie-and-sheetmetal-screw DSMer. :thumb:

Do you recall if the rocker moulding clips looked like this:

Bingo! That's what I was looking for, thanks bro. Of all the info on this site,I can't believe this info was not on here, that's why I asked for a bodyshop guy. I only use zipties on my drift car and my girl. Im a huge fan of doing it right,I've done my fair share of hackjob mods when I was a younger tuner/enthusiast.

The clip on the left goes into the rocker panel underneath the car. I believe it comes with the screw that goes into it when you order it from the dealership. I would recommend getting some of these also. The clip on the right is what you need to hold the rocker moulding to the car.

No, they do not. I will see if I have an extra one lying around and will take a picture for you.

Shucks. I'm almost positive the image I posted is the correct clip for the 2gb talon door strakes (not on an Eclipse), but I was hoping the skirt clips would be the same so I could pick them up at the local Mitsu dealership. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

It does look like the black ones that you posted are the ones that would work for both the sideskirts and the door strakes, because they have the square head on them?

Is the head on the white ones round? I cant tell from the pic?

I have absolutely no idea if the black ones would work for the skirts. I just know that if you chop the tip off of the black one above it looks EXACTLY like the door strake clip I pulled off of my 2gb talon. I'm going to buy two boxes and hope that the tips are what are need, but because the rest is IDENTICAL, I'm pretty sure they're correct for the strakes.

Looks like the left white clip has one square part but it doesn't have the 2nd round part the black one has. No clue what the tip looks like. I'd just trust what Scrymerr says about the skirt clips; I've never seen one...I've never even touched a 2g Eclipse.
