I was wondering what everybody thinks about body kits. I was thinking about putting one on my 1g. I've noticed that not very many 1g owners have body kits, and it seems like lots of the 2g owners do. I like the looks of the 1g with a kit, but what does everybody think?

I wouldn't waste your money. IMO just leave the stock body parts on, but do other things. Like lower it, new wheels, new paintjob, halo lights, etc.

I appreciate a clean stock looking car MUCH more then a body kitted one. :thumb:

Agreed.
If you want to improve appearance (and sometimes performance) i would do a nice Carbon Fiber hood (saves weight and improves looks), a good suspension job (can lower ride height and improve handling performance) and then a nice wheel and tire package (improves look of the car and also lessens weight if you go with a good wheel company and improves grip if you choose a good tire. This all equals less unsprung weight which is always a good thing). And then a paint job if needed.

I'm almost done with this package and my 2G looks great. All i need is a CF hood and a paint job for my skirts and front bumper.

there is a drift style bodykit for the 1g that looks "okay" but if i were to ever put a body kit on my car itd be the last thing id do to it after many many engine and suspension mods. whats the point of looking fast without backing it up :toobad:

Just how like the stillen front is... it is stock but aftermarket up the ass! None of that blitz crap... Also VeilSide... they went to the limit of nice just right before it goes to rice... but without even touching rice!

I'm shaving my fog light hole with a bumper repair kit (pretty much urethane) And then I'm going to locate a set of Hyundai Projector Fogs (same as our fogs, except they use a 9006 bulb... and I have an HID Kit that I can use for that!) in the side holes... so you'll only see them when they are on. Then I'm making some kind of spliter for the side vents.. like an air difuser. Cutting the top of the lip out of the 2gb bumper mouth and up above a blue Neon tube is going to be fitted to where nobody see's it... but the light will shine on the FMIC...

Thats what I'm workin on!

There is one front bumper that looks similar to stock its called Stillen for the 2g's.. search it on google.. I was debating it a while ago then got rims instead.. I also didnt do enough research on it to see if it was actually made in fiberglass or somethin else. I really dont recommend any fiberglass kit for an eclipse, they sit SO low as is, if you have a lot of potholes/bad roads/ steep hills/etc that fiberglass will crack soon. Although I did see something about a new resin or hardener used in fiberglass now that makes it as solid as a rock and anti-crackable but this was on a video where a guy was stomping on a bumper and it wouldnt break so its not really a reliable source. Good luck with your decision, if you have a 2gb front bumper... I wouldnt change it for the world, I think its a flawless bumper and makes the car look so mean. Go with what you like and stick with it man. Just dont put it on before you paint it !!!!!! :nono: LOL

edit- Damn Infinite "stillen" my post!! LMFAO

The OP has a 1g though.

theres a 1g lip that was/is being made by some one on dsmtalk. check their body tech section for the thread.

I like this body kit for the 1g. It's getting hard to find good 1ga turbo bumpers, and I've toyed with the idea of this bumper a few times. The drift one is ok too but other then that, the rest are horrible looking. If somebody would come out with a nice lip, that would look pimp too. You can also modify a mazdaspeed lip to work on the 1g's. Here's the thread;

It's very stange to read relpy's of people that are only performance minded in a "Appearance/Interior/Exterior" topic . Is it to piss off other people who doesn't care about performance or what ???? ... very strange ...

I don't care about performance at al btw .My n/a 2G does a good 220km/hr standard performance,so that's 100km to tfast as the fastest speed limit ROFL ROFL LOL

No, the people that are strictly performance... they are die hard DSM Fanatics, they eat, drink, piss, shit and sleep DSM's! Were the poor people (because we own a dsm)... We see too many of our fine dsms (yes even the pos RS) get treated like shit by some flippin ricer. Sure body kits can be done up right on our cars to look good... but how many are there? Count the people that have done a DAMN good job on a body kit... to make it look... just absolutely WOW, and then figure out the ratio of how many people are actually on this site... Or even do the ratio of people that have body kits period... to people who did it right! I see too many cars here in NM that are rigged up to be the nastiest shit ever! Hell my car was one of them! Luckily I bought it. When I bought my car, it had some pos eurthane front bumper on it, that was permenatly mounted to the fenders, the headlights were screwed in by wood screws and beer bottle caps for washers. there was tons of shit screwed to the dash to try and make it look nice, with wood screws! And mine wasn't the only one... There are tons I'v seen like that.

I care about both performance and looks... I'm not going to do a body kit, unless its the Veilside body kit...but I'm not that rich. I will mod my stock body to look aftermarket... I like owning an eclipse, I like people knowing that I own an eclipse, because eclipse's are respected.. unlike :tease: civics! Look at that Euro GST spyder that is pink and purple with a veilside body kit... He did his setup pretty much PERFECT! and the people that only care about performance, were clapping thier hands! And bowing down! That car is HOTTTTTTT!!!!!

So you just gotta understand, were just tired of seing more of our cars get treated like crap.

Hahaha,it's pretty different overhere in Holland .
1 - a standard n/t 1998 eclipse does +/- 9.000 dollar
2 - a standard turbo does +/- 14.000 dollar (import)
3 - a standard turbo spider does +/- 15.000 dollar (import)

The turbo's and spiders where never imported bij the dealers,so there's only 135 2G's in holland ...ROFL
So the car is pretty expensive and rare . The ricers can't affort them, and tune it up (like mine)

To make it like this from a standard car it costs +/- 15.000 dollar extra on top of the car . :D
U can easely double or tripple the prices of aftermarked parts overhere .

Dude, dont even call your car rice... sure some people might concider your car rice... but I think rice is when you do something to the car that just doesn't look good at all and has no functionality...

Sure your wing might not provide for downforce at the speeds we can go... but look at how extreamly hot your car is!!! Your car is an inspiration! BTW, those are the same wheels I'm getting!

I consider it bad taste, that's just me.

I just love the look of most stock cars with wheels, lowering, lip, Halos (sometimes), tint, etc. stuff like that.

+1

People with body-kits get trash talked to them by others who think its a waste of money. But I rarely notice people like this attacking those who spend the money to convert their fascia, tailights, etc, from Talon to Eclipse or visa-versa. Both groups of people are working to make their car in the image they want to and good for them.

I bought my car with a body kit on it and I took it off because I just like the factory lines.
That being said, I've seen plenty of body-kits that look fine on DSM's (2G and 1G alike). It's all a matter of personal taste. If you think a body-kit would enhance the look of your car and you're willing to fork out the money, I say more power to you. Don't let other people's opinions influence your decision on your car. Do what makes you happy.

Yeah I agree and all but all that money could be spent into the motor and drivetrain to make it fast. Then again that's just what I prefer.

I don't mind clean good looking expensive body kits. Just the ebay ones that are still primered and hanging off the car piss me off.
