How common or normal is it for a talon (2g) to smoke black?

stock turbo, str8 pipe exhaust all the way back. No cats, nor mufflers.
 
Alright well i checked my belts today and there still there :thumb: .... bad news is my transmission isnt really there... its more or less hanging by 2 bolts( as you can almost see a 1/4" gap between bellhouse and engine) along with a MASSIVE crack running along the bellhousing. So i think thats what the screeching sound was and the black smoke was from my clutch burning up.. i dunno anyone have any thoughts to this black smoke thing?:dsm:
 
ya you got it the tranny fell off and you got some grinding happening. This is not that uncommon when people do a clutch the don't use all the bolts. Now you have to find a good bellhousing and swap it with yours. Thats if your tranny is worth saving?
 
i have black smoke coming out my exhaust but only when i get into high boost when it idles it dont smoke but i can put like a napkin over the exhaust and it will turn it black and feels like oil on it i know a boost leak can cause black smoke but what about the what appears to be oil and what all could possibly me causin it the car is a 95 gst with a front mount fuel pressure regulator 255 walbro pump greddy type s bov precision 50 trim turbo un tuned(could that possibly be the prob?) im new to dsms so i need help thanks

btw the car has plenty of power and is not losing boost it will boost up and stays doesnt drop back down or nothing has hell of power help me out thanks
 
Sounds like your running incredibly rich. Test your fuel pressure regulator. With a 255 pump youve most likely over run it.


how much pressure should i run the guage reads like 42 and yes when i step on the gas the air fuel guage nails rich i have no logger or nothing how could i solve this problem
 
You have all those big mods yet you're new to the whole DSM scene?

The fuel pressure should read 37 psi when the engine is at 0 boost. Readjust it. Also you need a tuner of some sort. DSMLink is nice. I wouldn't suggest AEM standalone. SAFC but I don't know what injectors you're running.

ok i will turn it down thanks where can i get a dsm link u have a site with price and so forth i want to get one and its running on stock injectors but my plans are to put rc 750s and the dsm link and a good tune any idea what kinda power i may get out of that with the mods i have also has 3 inch exhaut stock manifold the black smoke just has me worried but ive had the car for 5 or 6 months and has always done it but i want it fixed and would like to move further with my plans of the injectors and a tune i smashed a deer so kinds threw me back as now im buying parts and gotta get it painted LOL any ideas on what i should get or do let me know i have some money but dont wanna go to crazy;)
 
Some of our site vendors carry DSMLink. Just go look. It will set you back about $500. $700 if you don't have an EPROM ECU. Since you're running stock injectors, just get an SAFC to tune with. You're learning to run before you can crawl at this point.

what is a SAFC sorry like i say im new to it but i want to learn ### i want a badass dsm LOL i mean is fast now but i know what its capable of and thats what i want bu i want it done right not have ass stuff

It sounds like your rich (which our cars do stock) but if you have a narrowband AFR auge it will always hit full rich when you go WOT. Buy a wideband o2 sensor kit from PLX or AEM if you want accurate readings to tune with. Of course, buy DSMlink.

i wish I WAS RICH LOL yes the car is rich thanks for the info bro and yes im gonna get me a dsm link im gonna get everything yall are tell me to get LOL i want POWER the right way instead of being stupid and turning boost way up thanks for the info man

You need to learn to use the search function. There is a ton of info on this site waiting to be read. Just type in SAFC.
 
alright....i was driving my car and this is the first time this has ever happend....black smoke is coming out of my exhaust when i floor it, shift or rev it when im just sitting there....and it bogs down alot....
 
My car did that when my old stock turbo crapped out on me.
I was driving in town and at a stop light a lady pulls up along side of me and says "you know your car is smoking black?"

So I got a SAFC and that fixed it.
 
Do a forum search on boost leaks. Your car is metering air that is leaking out and supplying fuel for. That bunch of black smoke is the excess fuel.
