This was something I had seen over and over again and the biggest issue was people not being able to use the timing cover with this pump setup. Of course this is not ideal and can be catastrophic to the engine should you get a tiny stone or something flying up into your belt system and let's not forget weather getting it all dirty too!
Well thankfully I had gotten to a point where I could do some video work and share my experience of this and HOW I routed them, plus the trimming of the timing cover to fit safely around the lines and offer much better belt protection. I have seen people chop huge cuts out and while it bolts on is not exactly immune to things getting in due to the lack of tightness of the surround to the outlets/inlets on the pump. You always want this to be as tight and clean as possible for maximum security and safety of your engine.
