Big T28 Turbo Install HELP!!!!

I'm about to swap out a stock turbo (97 Eclipse GS-t) with a big T 28. I know that this turbo is a direct bolt on but can anyone tell me which gaskets positively need to be changed and does the exhaust manifold have to come off in order to do this swap. Any info. on this install (like any problem areas to watch out for) would be a big help. I was also wondering at what boost level is it safe to run the Big T28 with stock injectors. I have all your basic bolt ons (turbo back 3in, K&N cone, Upper IC piping, boost controller, boost and lean/rich guages, as well as a Walbro fuel pump). I hope to upgrade to new injectors one day but for now I'll have to stick with the stock injectors. For those who have upgraded to larger injectors, is retuning a must or can you still run pretty good with a stock ECU controlling everything. Yeah I know, a lot of questions but if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks big time!

defintely change out your manifold/turbo gasket and turbo/downpipe gasket. Also change out the washers on the coolant lines and the gaskets on the return oil line. you won't have to take the manifold off to put the turbo in. Just take your fans out to give you more room. Without injectors run about 15psi, but every car differs. If you don't have a datalogger of some sort get one.

Thanks for the help guys-I was wondering though... I saw where one guy was going to use a 7cm dp to turbo gasket. I thought 6cm was the size of the stock gasket-

I think you are referring to the exhaust mani/turbo gasket...stock is 6 but a ported big28 will need a 7cm.

Yeah sorry my mistake-I meant the exhaust to turbo gasket. I'm thinking the same thing-a unported big t28 (which I'm getting) should take the stock gasket. I hope so because the 6cm gasket is what I ordered.

The things I ended up getting were the manifold-turbine gasket, turbine-downpipe gasket, 4 forged turbo bolts with lock washers from sbr and an ss oil feed line (I'd highly recommend this as it makes the install much easier, and the one that came with the turbo leaked and caused a week long delay). Another thing you may or may not need to replace is the exhaust manifold gasket if you decide to pull that.

I just purchased a stock replacement oil feed line for mine from Mitsu, been running 1.5 years now no problem at all. With the local discount it was cheaper than a SS line plus we get teh turbo t look stock why not make it look stock? no one has clue about what is going to hit them when they see me at a gas station checking my oil when they ask me to do a pull. as per previous post, I love my BT28. I am going bigger since I feel I have the proper supporting mods and knowledge now but for what I paid and got I am not dissapointed one bit. As for the gaskets like the adivse already given, mani to turbo is a HIGHLY recommeneded, oil return line gasket, and crushwashers. Also get rid of that stud and replace it with stock bolt and 2 washers (like the other 3 already have). Read the VFAQ, take your time. Use PLENTY OF PB BLASTER, I did what was recommended in the VFAQ and soaked my bolts all day while at work, the ride home was a bit embarrasing smoking like that, but made the removal a breeze. Use a premium antiseize for ease when removing again.

As for the mani coming off, if you still have the stud on the stocker T25 it will depend, the VFAQ outlines how to remove the stud with the turbo on the car. Mine DID NOT work, so I ended up removing the mani anyways.

As for the upgraded injectors and the comment on re-tuning or keeping the stock ECU, I belive a setup is only as good as the driver and the tuning, so yes, you need to return, which looking at your list I did not see anything of fuel managment, but it will be needed.

one more question to those who has done the t28 install.. did you guys use a torque wrench? i read somewhere that you should torque everything according to specs. thanx again.
