Looking at buying a car so I have a question. A 1G with a Big 16G turbo 550cc injectors Walbro 255 fuel pump 2.5 exhaust but still with the stock intercooler. Is it possible its pushing 300 horsepower and running high 12's? I thought I read somewhere the Big 16G couldn't push 300 hp without a front mount intercooler. Anyone know. Sorry I don't think this would be considered bench racing but forgive me if it is.
 
You can do it on the stock side mount, but it'll take alot more tuning to get there. You'll be fighting off knock, backed off timing, high intake temps, etc etc. Make it easier and get a FMIC or a better side mount. :thumb:
 
I have similar mods. With a supra sidemeount I was able to dip into the high 12s. With the stock smic I only cranked the boost to 18psi. With the supra smic I run 20 psi on the street with no knock. But that's on 93 octane.
 
you do have very similir mods to the car I'm looking at. Is your car still quite streetable??? I'm looking for something with a few mods already so I can start with something quick and slowly upgrade. The one I found with the Big16G is really sticking out to me. He has a supra sidemount to throw in as well but its not installed yet. He wants 3grand which sounds like a pretty good deal. Haven't had a chance to go look at the car yet though. Claims there is no knock pings or anything like that.
 
I had knock on my Big16G at anything over 15PSI with the stock SMIC. It's not known as a very efficient turbo, so any kind of upgraded IC will help, especially a FMIC. My car is A/T, but I only dynoed 208WHP on pump and 254WHP on race gas with that turbo and a stock IC.
 
My car is very streetable. Eventhough I have the boost set to 20 I rarely hit that psi on the street. The supra sidemount install was a PITA but well worth it. I can make multiple WOT runs and the upper intercooler pipe stays cool. One thing I would do is have the guy do a compression test better yet with you present to make sure the motor is healthly. No need for you to drop 3grand and the motor needs a overhaul.
 
Thanks for the info. And yeah a compression test would be a good idea. So you don't think he's making 300HP with the stock intercooler anyways right? Or if he is he might be ruining something with the boost up that high? I think he's just guessing on the numbers anyway. it'll probably be sold by the time I have the money anyways. But it seems like a pretty good deal if it doesn't sell.
 
Race gas and/or some very good tuning it may be possible. Every car is different. Anything over 18psi and I encountered knock on the stock sidemount. With race gas I wouldn't have knocked. But I want to get as much as I can out of pump gas.
 
Good lord I hope it's possible to hit high 12's on that set up. Tons of people (including me) hit high/low 12's on the 14B/stock smic.

Well, when my FWD was running, I had about the same mods except with a fmic. There isn't a quarter mile close but it ran 8.1@90 in the 1/8 and put down 313hp both on 16psi.
