might be in the wrong forum... but does anyone know for sure whether i can swap a big 16g hotside housing to my 14b? reason is its been ported and has the 34mm flapper mod, but 16g just broke...
thanks for the help all,
jerome

I think you meant to say they are interchangeable as long as both have the same turbine wheel. Cold side doesnt matter. 14b and small/big 16g all use the TDO5H wheel.

Ok let me ask this then. Can you put a Big 16G turbine housing on a EvoIII 16G turbo?

Supposedly, but theres a few main reasons I would want to do this:

1) I have 3 friends w/EvoIII 16G's, ported, 34mm flapper. They all have insane boost creep.

2) I killed my B16G on my backup car, but all the housings are good, including the turbine housing which is ported and has 34mm wastegate...I NEVER had boost creep w/it.

3) I just bought an EvoIII 16G with a damaged turbine housing. If I can swap my old b16G turbine housing over I can fix it for free..

So does anyone know? I'll have the EvoIII 16G in a few days so I will be able to tell for sure!

soo...a 14b turbine housing would work on a B16g? have a ported 14b, dont feel like porting the 16g too

14b housing will work on a 16g but its a 6cm housing instead of a 7cm.

so port the living crap out of it if you do decide to put it on.

they all use the same turbine wheel. that means, ALL OF THEM use the same turbine wheel.

that means the:
14b,
small 16g,
big 16g,
evo 3 16g,
TD05H 18g
TD05H 19c
TD05H 17c
TD05H 20g

ALL USE THE SAME TURBINE WHEEL.

the evo 3 turbine housing is about 2 lbs lighter than the others, so you will be adding weight, if you care.

14b housing on a b16g makes it into a small 16g

Yikes...putting a 14b 6cm housing on a 16g that has a 7cm housing does nothing to it except make it spool a little faster and lose some topend. 14b, small, big, and evoIII have different compressor wheels which sets them apart. Small and big share the same 7cm housing. The evoIII has a different metal housing which makes it lighter and stronger and also a 2.5in turbine exit as apposed to the 2inch on the standard 7cm housing.

That's correct, 1stGenRocks you should edit your post.

The EVO III 16G has a larger inducer wheel then the Big 16G, and the Big 16G has a larger exducer wheel then the EVO III, and when I say that_____wheel on_______turbo is larger, its not a huge difference, its a difference of.005" for the exducer's, and .004" difference on the inducers. But those are the differences.

done. I was under the impression that 14b and small 16g both had 6cm housings, big 7cm and evo is even bigger.

either way a 6cm 14b housing is better then a damaged 7cm housing. especially if you port the crap out of it until its at least 7cm like I did to mine :D

No, the evo3 has the biggest of the big when it comes to compressor wheels for the 16g family, it takes a back seat to no other 16g. http://www.slowboyracing.com/evo16g.htm

I have a big16G in a 14b housing, works really great. I don't remember how much I ported it though, it was like 8 years ago. Makes good enough power for me, and 0 boost creeps.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! I knew for sure that all the 16G's and the 14B shared the same turbine wheel. I wasn't sure what the difference between 6cm and 7cm was though. So now I believe 6cm or 7cm refers to the turbine housing inlet.

When I get the EvoIII16G, I will definately swap my 7cm b16G housing onto it and take pictures.

Also, I have a SBR GT-12, ball bearing 57trim on my dd. I was inspecting the turbine housing on it, and it looks identical to a mitsu housing except it has a bunch of bolt holes for the garrett cartride to bolt to(thus making it a hybrid). It spools quickly and hauls ass @ 25PSI. Does anyone know what kind of housings they use? Custom turbine housings for sure, but are they 7cm or bigger?

The easiest way to get an answer to that is to just ask slowboy, they should know.

While you are talking about the compressor wheel & the others have been talking about the turbine wheel, your info isn't correct. The evoIII's compressor wheel has a larger inducer then the big16g and the exducer on them both is the same size. As far as the turbine wheel goes they both use the same.

As for the GT12, SBR gets their own turbine housing cast for them, just like PTE to make it a bolt on affair for our cars. Its been quite some time since I talked to SBR about their turbine housings but if I recall they are pretty much the same as PTE and are basically built to the Mitsu 7cm housing specs, just adding the mods to bolt up different style center sections but Im not 100% sure.

soo...my ported 14b housing on a B16g would be the same as a standard B16g, correct? as long as its ported to at least 7cm...?
