Im building up a 2g gst, which i hope to put down around 550 whp.. I know im stupid for not having awd but im stuck so oh well..

anyways i wanted to know if anyone had some secrets for a good launch.. so far i will be using a quaife lsd.. tryin to figure out the best strut and spring setup.. slicks and what size.. or any traction bar modifications people know about.

If you're looking to make that much power then I would suggest you invest in some kind of staged boost controller, which will help in the first couple of gears. I'm not sure on what size slicks, but if your not racing this in a class where tire size is limited then I would say some 26 inch slicks, but your tranny might not like that (if stock). If this will be a mostly track car then I say get some custom spring rates. And finally, traction bars, I haven't heard of any DSM guys running them, but I know their big with the honda crowd, I would suggest all the other options first before getting some custom traction bars made.

why not do the awd conversion?

Best answer, really i'm not being sarcastic. If that is out of the question then you are going to need, the LSD some slicks and a good suspension set up. For slicks I run 24.5" slicks at the moment and from what I have heard you don't really have to worry about breaking axles with these size slicks(don't worry about the stock tranny its the axles you have to worry about). If you do upgrade to 26" slicks, which you will need to do with 550whp because you will run out of gear otherwise, then you are going to need to upgrade your axles as well. Here is the catch the Drive shaft shop stage 3 axles dont' do very mcuh in the way of helping us fwd guys out. The stock axles are quite strong and the stage 3's only give you a stronger axle section. The part we need to upgrade is the c.v./hub area. So to effectively run stronger axles you have to go with their stage 5 axles which replace the entire hub assembly with a 1 peice machined one. Well those axles cost quite the pretty penny 1.5k to be exact.

Next you will deffinately need a good suspensino set up. If you are going to use this car for drag racing only and don't very much care for ride quality then you can go fairly cheap and get away with a relatively good drag setup. To do it this way just buy a set of AGX and some ground control coil overs with custom springs rates. You will want to go super stiff in the rear and not so stiff in the front say a 550r/450f spring rate. Then you will want to raise the rear of the car as high as possible and lower the front as much as possible. The same as the spring rates you will wnat to run the rear shocks on full stiff and the fronts on full soft. This will keep the rear from squating and unloading the front suspension causing you to hve wheel spin.

Thanks for the advise... about the AWD its in the workings if i can find a wrecked gsx so i can have all the parts ready... but if im gonna spend the money i might as well just buy a gsx so im gonna see what i can do with the gst... it has been done before i have seen a few fwd with 1.6 1.7 60' launches...

YES and NO, the classes where he could make the most impact would be SFWD or the new fwd street class. The max tire size you would be able to do is a 25inch slick in SFWD . Please look because, they already tell you what tire size in what brands. In the drag radial class, the max you can run is 235/60r15. If know where to get some traction bar, tell me. I was going to have to get them fab up somewhere in maryland. As for the tranny, I would run stock and replace or rebuild as needed. You may need to get some custom springs. I couldn't find anything like I can for hondas.

I know what you mean about hondas. I'm a honda boy myself and I'm currently building a 4G63 mirage for sport fwd. It's hard to find certain parts. I would just go and have the traction bars custom made or you can look in limit straps, both are promising for quicker 60's. I go to drag racing section of http://www.honda-tech.com, it seems to be the most comprehensive site for high hp, fast fwds.

like the others said really good suspension, coilovers would be the best. you wanna have the suspension really stiff in the back and a little softer up front. you just dont want alot of weight tranfer off the front wheels. slicks and a lsd will help alot. ooh and your not stupid for having a fwd. i mean the goodwill car is pulling 1.5 60 foots soo theres no reason to go awd, thats a waste of time in my eyes.

If Your Just Going Race Your Car In A Strait Line Do Tha [awd] But If Your Going To Hit Some Corners Just Go With A Good [lsd] And Sticky Tires

That really did not make any sense. Good idea, An lsd and sticky tires only, If you're putting down 550whp and want to ''hit some corners'' but if you want to ''do tha straight line'' then do the awd conversion.. LOL :tease:
