whats the best exhaust setup for a 95 gsx, i dont have emissions either

Best exhaust is NO exhaust! :thumb:

The bigger the better, so 3". No cat, and throw an o2 dump in there too.

My setup is a 2.5" o2 housing with external dump, mated to a RRE 2.5"->3" downpipe (2.5" to the flex section, 3" flex section on), RRE 3" testpipe, 3" Thermal catback. Very free flowing, the thermal sounds awesome, and the o2 dump sounds mean and gives you more top end.

If you could have a local shop do the piping and buy a straight through muffler it will be just as good. If you want to spend the cash I recommend rnr. :thumb:

If you know how to weld and want to save money, you can order the mandrels from JC whitney and build yourself a full 3 inch setup for about 250. And hey, pipe is pipe, as long as it's 3 inch mandrel. :thumb: I think it was Devilsperm that did it, and had a big thread with helpful pictures.

2G's are a tad easier to make than 1G's because there are less bends involved. If you have some welding skill, I woild definitly take that approach rather than buying it because of the cost difference. You can really save some big bux.. :thumb:

No Exhaust!

going the with biggest exhaust possible is the best thing in all ways expect one. "boost creep" you have 4 options in order best to worst (IMO): External wastgate on manifold, external wastgate on the internal dump, (this works quite well because you romove the flapper and port that entire area out.), external dump o2 housing, port the o2 housing. the first 2 are rather expensive. best be is the external dump o2 housing. :thumb:

I made my exhuast for my 1G awd with 1 90' bend, 1 45 bend, flex section and 2 straight pipes, all 3 inch aluminzed mandrel bent, with a 3inch inlet muffler.

175 total cost with muffler. Its 3 parts, using all the stock hang points.

No back pressure is needed on dsm's with turbos.. the turbine will give you all the back pressure you need.... building one is the best way... i mean 200-300 is so much nicer than shelling out 600 to even a grand on some of these set ups sites are slingin'... even your local exhaust shop can beat that price

you need some backpressure...we dyno'd a 350 in a t-bucket with open headers then added just a cat on each side and gained 10hp and 12 ft/lb's of torque

That's a non-turbo car. We're talking about turbo dsm's here, and the turbo provides all the backpressure we need. Once gases pass through the turbo, you want them gone as quick as possible. Hence no exhaust, or 3" piping, and external dumps.

Did you get the pipes from JC Whitney? Any pics or helpful hints for this setup? Thanks.

I recomend a 2.5'' stainless O2 housing with a EXTENAL gate (on the 02 housing) itself along with a stainless full 3'' from the turbo back R&R is popular here but I like the thermal cat back. The extenal gate on the O2 housing is needed to to get rid of the boost creep you will have with the 3"" and have more adjustability for bigger tubos you might have in the future. If you dont plan on building anything faster than a 12 fast street car that sees very little track and money races just go with at EVO 16g ported and 34mm internal waistgate. The External WGs are more efficent than the internal WGs for reducing the boost creep you will run into with bigger turbos THAN a 16g. You can run an external with a B16g so its up to you. I just recomend the external because it is more efficent.

I got a full 3" exhaust with muffler (3" downpipe, 3" HF cat, 3" exhaust, 3" inlet muffler) for free. Cat and muffler from Magnaflow.

pipes are pipes man
first you have your choice of size. 2.5" is good, 3" is a bit better.
you have your choice of press bent or mandrel (mandrel is better)
then your choice of material (aluminized steel or stainless, stainless is better)
then your choice of test pipe or no test pipe (test pipe is better unless you get smog tested)
then your choice of muffler (straight through is what i prefer)

im about to have a muffler shop weld on a second straight through muffler on my catback (past the second o2 sensor bung)

wow i used lots of parenthesis

My fave

Affordable. Mandrel 3" ss... Straight thru perf core muffler. It uses all stock hangers and hugs the bottom of the car. Alot more ground clearance than the vast majority of the systems I have seen....

Get a Megan SS DP. Cut the cat flange end off of both of them and splice with 6" or 3" ss and two band clamps...

As soon as weather co-ops for photos I'll have some..

My vote goes to the HKS Carbon-Titanium conected to a SS downpipe of your choice. In both looks and exhaust note, this is the only system that Im happy with. A little louder than stock at idle ans a loud, throaty and exotic sound at WOT. Not at all raspy or mortorcycle-like and nasty.

Another good exhaust is the Espelir system. It's a little loud though but still nice.
