hey i have a 90 lazer used

bought a new battery worked fine, 2days later the battery was dead, jumped it, let the alt charge it for a few shut it off, and it started up, the next day i go to start it its dead

i took off the pos. side of the battery and hooked it up to a multimeter (one on the battery one on the wire) it reads 11v with the key out so i know i have a short or somethign somewhere i gues.

soo..i checked all the fuses, no change works fine

then i took the 3layers apart and checked each one, they all read 6v

i dont know wut it could be any ideas?

i dunno if this helps but when i open the driver side door the seat belt doesnt move, i fixed the switch on the door and now the lights go on but the seat belt still doesnt move

I would start by disconnecting the seatbelt module (on drivers side behind center pillar panel...behind driver's seat). And disconnect the seatbelt motors as well. See if this fixes the problem....If not start by disconnecting fuses one at a time and check your voltages.

i did the fuse idea alwready, changed nothing, im tryin to check the alt. supo
suvly that can do it sometime, and how do i disconect the motors and the other thing, are you talking about the wire under teh seat?

Ok, let me clarify, what I said. And tell me if you've done this part already.....Check the fuses, meaning, not "check" them, but test the voltage at the battery, with one fuse unplugged, repeat through all fuses.

Then, the seat belt module and motors...unplug and test current. Yes, they are located behind the drivers seat, behind the plastic panel at center pillar.

Also another quick test you can do is disconnect the battery cables altogether and with a multimeter set at "TONE"...see if you get a tone....if so, let me know...it means you definetly have a short or positive ground.

An alternator will not do what you describe, HOWEVER, a voltage regulator will, check it as well.

yea thats what i did with the fuses

i meant i was going to disconect the alternator and see if that was makeing the short

Two things.

11v is not the greatest ...you should ahve at min 12.3

Have you check teh voltage while the car is running?

If its not 13.3 or better then your alternator is shot. If you see 13.3 to 14.7v then the alt is working but the battery has a bad cell if it is not holding the charge......yes this can happen on a new battery.

ok but if that was the case, would it still hold enough juice to start like 2hours later maybe more?

im having the exact same problem! the past 2 days in the morning my car wouldnt start, i jumped the battery and its fine, the alternator seems to recharge it cause i can drive it/shut it off throughout the day and it starts up normally. but when i leave it overnight it doesnt have enough juice in the morning to start up.

if your battery dies over night you then have a parasitic draw. If you have a multimeter then disconnect your neg. term and place your multimeter in series between the post and the neg. cable end. The meter should be placed in the 10 A scale. When doing this test all the doors should be shut and the keys out of the ignition. A good reading is around .04 A. when i first did this test on my car i got a 1A draw OMG . Stupid seat belts were still drawing power. I pulled the fuse and when i put it back in the draw was gone for good. :thumb:

i recently had a short that was blowing my taillight fuse and i got it fixed like 2 weeks ago, i wonder if this could be related? i will see if i can get a multimeter from someone

ok so now that im driving the car it seems to work, runnin fine, next morning i went to start it it didnt start, tride again and again and walla, started right up, took like 3, 4 try's.....wondering if it could be the ignition, bad ground? maybe the starter?
