hey, just bought a brand new rebuilt motor from this company overbore.com. when i ordered it i asked to have the balance shafts removed. i need someone to tell me whether that was a bad idea or not. first off let me say that the motor was put in yesterday, k, well according to the service manager at mitsubishi, there is a plug that was leaking (the plug was there due to the elim. kit) and the plug fell out into the motor. luckily for me it was shut off before anything catastrophic happened. today the bottom end was taken apart to see what parts they would need to replace. now my question is, due to the balance shafts being removed am i going to have to worry about pieces fallling apart now? i mean, the internals of the motor (as long as their stock) are warrantied by the company for two years. i just want to know what i'm going to deal with here. i know about the balance shaft elim. kit, i did my homework a little on that, i just wanna make sure my engine isn't going to fall apart on me like what happened yesterday with the plug. any advice would be awesome cuz i am stumped as to what to think or do right now

You mean You haven't already called and talked to Mark again?

The guy knows what he's talking about. I am interested in purchasing a engine from him, too.

How was everything when it arrived?

Did you get upgraded internals or did you stay with OEM stuff?

That plug you mentioned, shouldn't have fallen out. Its usually JB welded/or Epoxied in to the front cover where the front balance shaft USED to be. I bet the tech putting the engine in fubarred it somehow.

Mark at overbore.com has a 400 + hp GS-T, I doubt he would have sabotaged it.

Anyways, please post a review of the service and quality of the product you got (ohh yeah is it 6 bolt or 7 bolt ??? ) I am in need of a quality engine and www.overbore.com has been on the top of my list.

another plug was sent overnight to the dealer , save the other one so i can see it to find why it came out , make sure they do not dispose of it .
Thanks

alright well dealing with overbore.com has pissed me off to a great extent. when i first ordered the motor, basically a stock 7 bolt, just an upgraded mls head gasket, mark told me it would take 3-4 weeks for the motor to come to my house. WRONG! it ended up taking him 12-13 weeks. then he told me it was shipped out on like the 13th week. well coming from new york i live in new hampshire. after 2 weeks of not getting the motor i was pissed so i finally called the shipping company, and they told me that it was shipped out the night before (15th week). i was soooooo damn pissed at mark and the chick secretary they all lied. i'll talk to the tech at mitsubishi to see what happened with the plug and see if they still have it so i can take a picture of it to show you. i haven't gotten the car back yet. it might come out tonight or it will be out monday. i'll write a review when i get the car out and rollin.

Are you sure the plug fell "into" the motor? Where the plug goes in, isn't one big hole. The only way the plug could fall into the motor, was if someone had cut the metal behind the plug (unlikely). Did you actually see the plug in the motor?

no i never did, but it was all taken care of today and mark from overbore.com in fact did ship it overnight and he payed for everything including the added labor it took. but now, the motor blows oil out of everywhere under boost. mitsubishi went thru every possible external thing they could've and they said that it was an internal problem. so now on monday they have to get a hold of mark and discuss more crap. i for some reason don't see myself getting my car back for a while.

BLOWING OIL ALL over? how many miles did you put on it before you started beating it? things need to stop being misconstrewed, I always work with my customers even when they are out of warranty, so bashing me when you were taken care of FAST I will treat you the same if something comes up.
you had an issue it was taken care of faster than you could imagine stop acting like someone from New Jersey ROFL . the engine has a mitsubishi gasket set in it, one thing to consider if your cat converter is plugged it will create too much back pressure and seals will leak. beyond my control, and the dealer called me at the end of the day and said nicest running engine from a rebuilder we have ever seen along with the workmanship and detail except for the plug.
just go out and drive the car and enjoy it.
enjoy your car this weekend

the motor was running for a half hour perfectly, then when driven under boost it blows oil out of random spots, for instance out the oil dipstick, the headgasket, etc. so i wasn't able to take it for the weekend to enjoy. there gonna look at it on monday. i agree mark knows what he's talking about and i agree the motor is built properly. just my experiences so far have not been the best.

If your blowing oil out the dip stick and shit, it's likely not the motor.

Start with your PCV and valve cover breather, please tell me they are not looped together or somtehign stupid like that. Make sure they are either both into the intake or just hanging out open.

Second check your PCV valve make sure it's not plugged or something it caught in it.

THird make sure your cat is not pluged (however unlikely)

From what your describing its like crank case pressure can not escape and it's trying to by going up the dip stick, out the oil return for the turbo etc.. You need to find out why air is trying to flow backwards out of the block.

they put a new pcv valve in it just to make sure that was not the case. i dont know about the valve cover breather though. i don't have the car right now it's at the dealership still. are you positive the only other reason would be the cat? and if so, ya think i'd be able to drive it about 5 miles to a nearby shop. i just got an exhaust and there putting it all on, full turbo-back.

also, i'd like to add that my car was sitting from november all the way to the beginning of this month (june). if that might mean anything to anybody.

I agree this is a factor. :thumb:

But...

This can be caused by rings. Railroaded rings, bad seal rings, broken rings, anything that allows the combustion to blow by into the crankcase and build up more pressure than your system can handle. Obviously, under boost you get a lot more of a load. I'm not smokin' on Mark (I don't even know the guy) but this is certainly a possibility for even an experienced rebuilder (i.e. been there done that :p ).
Just a thought.

the techs at the mitsu dealership agree with the rings being the problem. i am going to tell them about how it was sitting for such a long time though and to check my cat as well.

i really hope its just the cat. if it is, would i be able to drive it like 5 miles if i dont boost at all? there's a local shop that's putting an exhaust onto my car from my new o2 dump all the way back. no resonators, no cat. i think that might just get rid of the backpressure if any thats causing the oil leaks :thumb: . i really can't afford to lose my car any longer.
