Balance shaft bearing reinstall

whats the trick to getting the new bearing in the block to block off the oil passage where the balance shaft used to be? we tried to put it onto the shaft and stick it in the block and into the hole but it didnt quite work so well. And i don't want to have to short block it again.....

I've heard getting a socket that's the same diameter as the bearing is a good way to tap it back into place.
