Balance Belt not there?

A while ago my timing belt snapped and I had to get it replaced. Luckily there was no engine damage. I asked my mechanic if the balance belt was bad too and needed to be replaced. He said that there is no balance belt and that the engine didn't need it. This is a 4g61 engine not a 4g63 or 420A. Is the mechanic right or should I be worried?

there had to be one at one point. One of two things could have happened someone could have done an elimination. or two its the cause of your timing belt snapping. The bs belts are notorious for this. they snap and get lodged in the timing belt causing them to break. they suck.

Well he said the engine didn't need it. Not that it was missing and required one. If the belt snapped I would assume that it has been eliminated. It's a 4g61 and not a 4g63. You think another one of those engine difference could be the elimination of a balance belt as well as the difference in displacement?

I dont know the diff between 4g61 and4g63

but TECHNICALLY you dont HAVE to HAVE a Balance belt to run. I know some people who have gone 50k with just a cut balance belt no other mods...


the only problem with this is if the other side of the balance shaft seizes then kiss your engine good bye..


either do a removal kit or put a balance belt back on... but it doesnt HAVE to be there...
