A fellas, i don't know what the ####'s going on. I am constantly having to add power steering to my shit. The car is a 90 tsi with 160k on the eng, and i had it in the air, and it looks like the stuff is leaking out of the bellow boots, which is not supposed to happen.

The car has a bad leak on the passenger side, so my guess is that either the rack is bad or i need to change out the hoses because of their age.

Anybody had this happen? Should i just change the rack or try changing the hoses first because, i really can't see exactly were that shit is coming from.

I really don't know how a bad rack's supposed to feel.

When i fill it with power steering fluid the steering feels fine, nice and smooth obviously.

So my options are change the hoses or change the rack, but if thiers fluid coming out of the bellow boots, than i think that means that something internal is bad

Let me know if im right or wrong.

Thanks for any imput:talon:

Me and my bro ended up replaceing my whole rack when we found it leaking out the bellow. Wasnt really to hard to do after we figured out you had to remove the transfer case to pull it out. The lines where a bi*** to get off so beware. Other than that we also ended up breaking both sway bar links cause they didnt want to come off, so that was another thing that got replaced.

change the rack, it should fix your problem. You can either get one from junkyard, buy a rebuild rack from parts store, buy rebuild kit and rebuild it yourself, buy one from a dealer or from someone ( shamless plug here- I have one for sale)

Will a 91 eclipse n/a power steering rack be compatible? There's one at the junkyard, which i can get for free.

I just need to know if it will fit the awd? I don't see what would be the problem.

yes it'll fit, as long as it's from 2.0. I'm not sure if 1.8 ever came with power steering.

actually you can still use the manual steering gear from 1.8 if you wanna get rid of your power steering and save weight and load on engine.
