I have the opportunity to buy a 91 talon awd tsi for $2,000. The guy put $5,000 in the engine alone, and about $10,000 in the whole car. Rebuilt engine, new tires, around 370-400HP. But I have less than perfect credit, and don't have anyone to co-sign. I'm desperate though, this car is too bad ass at too good of a price to pass up. So if anyone knows where I can possibly get 2,000 or has any ideas at all please let me know.

why would I have any reason to lie? He's pissed off at the car because he put all this work into it, and he drove it a week and blew a bearing or something like that. To fix whatever it is he busted would cost about $500. He said that if I could come up with the money he would give it to me for $2,000-$2,500. And you don't understand that I live 70 miles away from the 3rd richest city in the US - people get rid of vehicles for dirt cheap here. I got my 94 Eclipse for $700.

I dont care how much money you have you dont do shit like that. That is how they became rich in the first place. If they all just spent money and let things go for dirt checp then they would be poor after time. You dont even know what the actual problem is but you "know" that this is a great deal.

If you have bad credit then no one will give you an unsecured loan for the most part. You wont be ablt to sue the car as collateral becasue it is to old. I think you will have to let this "jewel"of a car pass.

If that guy is rich enough to throw away thousands of dollars by selling the car for $2000, why can't he afford a $500 fix?

It's bullshit, don't buy it.

Im also in somewhat the same dilemma, except i have my car to sell for as the down payment on the new 91 awd. I have absolutely no credit and no one to co-sign for me. I think i can get $2500-2700 out of my car as it sits, hes asking $4000 for the awd. I think i can get him donw to $3k though. Im gonna try for a loan. :|

If you have bad credit, dont look for a reason to make your credit worse. Have you researched insurance on this car? When I switched my 98 mustang GT to the 90 AWD, my insurance went up $30 a month! If you dont have the credit or the finances to get a $2000 car- which isnt a lot of money... then maybe you should hold off and wait until a better time in your life to do this. A good car will come along again. This $2000-give-away-car sounds like a scam to me anyway. Think this through.

i agree with them to not get it..it is definately weird

however..if you really need money LOL
bodily fluids sell well :thumb: :p

i don't know for sure what actually happened, he said the engine wasn't quite broke in yet and he got on it. The next day there was a knock that gradually got worse. He said it was a bearing, in the lower part of the engine? and that it would actually take about $800 to fix it, because they would have to grind something too. I don't know all of the details. The reason he is getting rid of it is because 1) he's pissed that he put all that work into it and that happened. 2) he's already got another project car 3)his wife is about to pop one out and he needs a family car.

so based on these facts, should I just forget it? or sell my 94 n/t and go ahead and get it. because it would be better to get an already turbo car, than to put a turbo in a non turbo car. if anything, i could probably part the car out for more money than i would end up giving for it

hey man even if you live next to a rich city it doesnt mater i live right next door to oakland county the third richest in america and they sure as hell dont sell cars with 370hp for 2 grand. do your self a favor and dont buy it i guarantee its a money pit. o yea that list of the richest cities has to be off bloomfield hill is on there but yet i dont see west bloomfield and i know people are richer in west bloomfield

wow that knocking that gradually gets worse sounds kinda like what was wrong with my car. Wasn't that hard to fix, just had to put a new engine in. After that I learned my lesson about these "great" deals.

Take the adive from Tweaker_G, bad bearing, or a busted rod, you got metal shavings going throughout the motor ruining other bearing surfaces and scarring things up running it at all. If you buy this car your looking in to a complete motor rebuild, not some half ass job.

If the motor is bad...That doesnt leave much more to part out. Sure it has some aftermaket parts on it ,but your not going to get your moneys worth. Save some money, and another one will come along. Dont want to buy a car for that price that you cant drive.

I got the facts straight now, he just spun a bearing, that's all. The engine though, had only 350 miles on it when this happened. The engine was built by Bush or Busher racing - out of Iowa. Sooo...still not worth it?
Also, has anyone beat an MX3 w/ nitrous in their DSM? just curious

wow i still don't believe it. MX3 on nitrous? Who cares, it's an mx3....on nitrous... :barf:

You still don't believe what? That nice of a car for dirt cheap? If that's what you mean, I will let you know how it turns out, cause I just bought it. Maybe I f*ed up, maybe I didn't. It will be a learning experience either way.
