I have a 90 talon tsi .When I got the car it had a problem with surging and bogging and not revving up very well. It got worse and worse. I started doing some maintenance stuff, new plugs, wires, fuel filter, walbro 190, swapped injectors from my other good car, new 02, swapped ecu but car runs worse and worse. I can't even really get any scan info on the car anymore it won't rev past 1000 and it stalls out pretty much right away it sounds like its running on 2 cylinders. So could the alternator be wreaking all this havoc. The car is also flooding out pretty much right away and the fuel reg checks out fine.
The injectors are fine. The plugs are wet with gas and the car don't rev up at all. Its not boost leak we have checked for that.

So once again could it be alt. These cars rely on power pretty heavily to work the computer and everything.

Anyone had similar problems and it was alt.

If it was a bad alt. the car would run ok for a little while on a fresh battery, atleast until it drained. I would try putting a new battery and see if that effects it.

Try connecting a volt meter to the battery while the vehicle is running... If the voltage is above 13 volts the alternator is charging. Unless the alternator is siezed(not free moving at the pulley) I don't believe this is your problem. Check for any corrosion at the battery and the alternator connections. If none is found, start with basics, such as a compression test, make sure the engine turns over freely by hand. Also if there is aftermarket mods such as SAFC or hacked MAF sensor this could be your issue

To me this problem screams ignition issue...when its sputtering try to keep it running and pull out a spark plug wire then plug it back in then continue to do this to all 4. If it is indeed running on 2 cylinders one of the coils could be shot, as one coil controls cylinders 2 and 3 and another one controls 1 and 4. if when we you disconnect one of the plug wires, the engine dies, thats probably one of the two working cylinders...so say cylinder 4 kills the engine, start it back up and then unplug 2 and 3, unplugging both should have no real affect on the already bad idle. also are all the plugs flooding or just 2?

As for the alternator, just like the one guy said as long as its a charged battery, it will run fine. heck one time when I killed my alternator I was able to drive it until the batt voltage reached about 9.5v.

Oh another thing it could be is a serious boost leak before the throttle body, this will cause some serious richening.

Try those out and do a boost leak and get back to us
