Well after some setbacks we finally got the car together for a few test passes this week. Made some pretty significant changes to the setup as well. Car now has a

New Hughes restalled converter
DSMlink (bye bye afc/chip)
1000CC injectors

Let me start by saying link now controls the nitrous and on the first pass with the new tighter converter car couldn't get to the target RPM. Sat on the line for 17 seconds with no boost, finally let it go and went 10.3@135 IIRC.

Next pass we change the fuel and timing down low to try to get it up to stall speed and on the bottle. Car still cannot quite make it to the nitrous. Bogged ran a [email protected], new best mph and an awd auto record for MPH.

Next pass lower the nitrous activation RPM, comes on too soon and pulls through the brakes and trigger the lights. Car launches about 10' out.

Another new best MPH, so we try again. This time everything seems to be right then at 4k on the stall it stops building boost cannot figure out what’s wrong and let it go. Just on the other side of the 1/8 there is a POP and no boost. Split the IC coupler and ended the night.

9.7@138

Oh well, we learned some stuff and now just have to get our short times back. Car is still on relatively conservative timing and 38-39 psi of boost and 50 shot. Look forward to the next trip with more power on tap, once we get the launch back in the 1.3-1.4s its going to scream.

Made 3 passes last night, first pass car started building boost and Brian let it go too early. Just on the other side of the 1/8 car layed down.

1.57 60
6.2@116 New best mph
9.6@145

So we start checking everything, pull the plugs and they look lean. Add some fuel on the sliders and some fuel pressure. Car builds pretty good boost on the line then spins hard. This time Brian says it feels slow, it is also breaking up as it goes down the track.

1.47
6.16@115
9.55@144

Brian tells us the car has lost 4 PSI of boost and figure its also way to rich. Pull the plugs and they are still clean, find the maft plug has water in it. Clean the connection and at this point we are not sure if thats been the problem the whole time. Pull the car back around, starts building boost on the line, makes 30psi on the line then POP. Boost goes back down car jumps forward, try to get on it and the car starts breaking up bady and won't go past 30psi. Figure the charge piping has come loose or something simple. Pull it around check it and cannot see anything wrong.

Car will be back again by the weekend I am sure.

Great job! 148 is alot of MPH for an auto car. I'm sure it just something with the intercooler or piping. I'm in the process of building one myself. Do you think it is completely necessary to spray the 50 shot? Is that the only way to get the car to leave, or hold boost through the pass? Also, do you think nitrous was needed on thecar when it had the t67? Thanks

I got some videos but its impossible to see the times on the boards at night on camera. Guess its time to invest in ful digital.

Very impressive times once again John. whats the stall at these days?

"starts building boost on the line, makes 30psi on the line then POP."

How are you building 30 lbs of boost on the line?? Better yet how are you holding the car back from rolling through the brakes?

On an auto car, cant you spray off of the stall to get more boost? I thought that is what he was doing?

I have heard of supra guys doing this to get their big ass turbos spooled up..and I am planning on trying it next time im out.

Is that what gets you to 30 psi at the line?

You guys are crazy. Leaving with 30psi?WTF And JohnTSI has a STOCK TRANSMISSION!

Bottle on the line is how it builds boost, once it build past 12 it starts shooting up quickly. We have the problems solved and will be back with 5-6 more psi on Saturday. Gotta turn it up since Dean set the record last week at a 9.38@144.

Was that car that went 9.38 a "street" car or a race car? Any more info, pics, or vids? Good luck on saturday.

It is a street driven car, but essentially a toy. I play a decent part in Dean's car. It is a '92 AWD with a 2.3l and a borg warner 74mm turbo. It has a ~65-shot on it until 6000rpm, which only happens during 1st gear. The 9.38 pass was at ~41psi boost. More power should be coming within the next couple weeks. It is currently at the limit of a couple parts and we're hoping to pick up a lot soon.

Good work John, we'll be trying to take it back as soon as you take it from us :thumb:

Track was junk last night car was sideways through the first 330'. Next weekend is a IHRA race there should be some rubber on the track for that event.

congrats on the 9.4 time to update that timeslip in the profile ;) haha

dont recall seeing what the stall is set at?

This car is the shop car and is in Jason's tsi profile. My 5 speed car is in my profile.

It is a stock restalled Hughes converter. Stall speed depends on how much bost and nitrous we throw at it to be honest.

ARe you spraying the car all the way down the track or just using it to build boost on stall?
