Alright its been almost a year since my last smog test and last time I was there they put my car on the rollers and drove it while the e-brake was so the rear tires didnt spin! And now after a year of reading through the forums I found out that, that shit if ####ed up they cant do that, in fact that could #### up my car, is this the truth and if so could I do anything about that smog station doing that to my car????

Probably not much you could do after a year. I don't know how they ran it that high with e-brake on, or maybe mines just not that strong.

At the time I too was surprised to see it not do anything funny! But the car was moving side to side on the rollers quite a bit. So for future references can they put my car on a fwd rollers???

I was under the impression that with a AWD car they cannot put it on the FWD rollers. I was told that they can only do the idle test.

yeah that's completely ridiculous. i've had to smog both of my AWD talons in the past couple years, as soon as it comes up that it's AWD the dyno goes out the window, they just do a 2 speed idle test. Definitely don't go back to that smog place, they sound like morons.... and if for some reason you absolutely have to, it's on the CA DMV site that vehicles equipped with AWD and certain traction control systems are exempt from the dyno, print that out and bring it with you.

This just dosen't sound right... I would think that this would do some serious damage to the VC in the transmission. How fast do the get the car up to when they do the emission test on the dyno?

You could def tell that he wasnt going very fast cause he seemed to be having trouble keeping it from swaying up front (going side to side on the rollers). So it wasnt anything fast as for the shop when i bought the car the dmv said I was selected to go to a test only shop and therefore I was limited to only those choices for a smog station. As for awd not being able to do the dyno. Will this help me out any as far as them being able to fail my car, in other words does being awd help me out any so they cant find anything that would normally find on a fwd car???And what kind of trouble could this (putting up e-brake to run only front tires do to my car?)

The test is a 15mph, then once you pass at 15 mph they kick it up to 25 mph......... that's kind of a lot man, i can't beleive they did that to your car. I just had to do test only on my s10, i was real scared about because it's heavily modified. Nothing perfomance oriented (except an exhaust) but the engine bay looks totally different than a stocker because i removed just about dam near everyhting i could except the motor for suspension clearance. I went and talked to the guy about it first (the intake was my biggest concern) and he was extremely cool. Said he didnt care as long as it passed the OBD2 and sniffer.

The thing with test only's is i thought it was gonna be like going to a smog referee. But it's just some dude that decided he wants to open a shop, smog cars but not have to do any other work besides test cars.... sounds like a pretty sweet gig to me, sit on your ass untill someone comes in, run their car and collect 65 bucks. Too bad it's killing all the real test and repair shops now............ i just hate smog all together.

Id say if you have not had any problems with the car then you got off lucky. The VC in our cars can take alot of stress if you dont go trying to burn it up.

The 95 cars both NT and Turbo do indeed have obd2 computers and ports, if you dont know what you are talking about then please dont post.

It was not a requirement for OBD2 computers untill 96 so most places will not run the OBD2 test. I have had my car tested via OBD2 and it passed just fine.

ah wow thats interesting.. but the port under my dash looks like the obd2 port.. even hooked up obd2 loggers in there.. and dsmlink reads it for obd2 readiness.. oh well joys of having 95.. :thumb:
It is OBD2. All 2Gs are. DSM was one of the first to implement it. VW was the other.
