just curious who all uses an AVC-R.. im considering getting one. I was going to get a profec-b but I was swayed towards the avcr when i saw a guy with a fwd (similar to mine) that did a neat trick.. he used the rpm/gear boost settings kinda like traction control.. when he launched he had his boost set so that in 1st and mainly 2nd he would only get a little boost.. like enough so he would chrip the tires but not start blowing them up.. then when he hit 3rd full boost of course.. just seemed really neat. he told me that after he got the AVC-R and tuned it like that his 60fts dropped ALOT, and are super consistant..

anywho, seems like a nifty idea to me, and it obviousley works..

so, i was wondering how much one should expect to pay for one? i see "list price $6xx but i know thats BS, nobody will pay that for one im sure..

what all did yall pay..

P.S. dont make this a "profec B is better" thread.. iits not up for discussion

I think AVCRs go for like $480 or so. My friend with a Supra TT has one and it is the biggest PITA to work with, he hates it.

Just basically trying to answer the "what do they cost" aspect but if that 'neat trick' is your swaying decision then why not just get a DSBC. Launch at low boost, flip a switch at the end of second and run high boost and it doesn't cost a TON and isn't hard to tune. Thats what I bought and my reasoning was close to why you are looking at the AVCR.

will that handle a bigger turbo? like FP58 (Gt40 wheel)

are your referring to the TurboXS one or what?

There's the Profec B too with dual boost settings.

There's also the more expensive Blitz SBC-ID, something like that. 4 ch. boost settings. Speed dependant boost setting. So basically you set up 4 boost settings and assign each to a mph range. The cool thing about it is you can add on the PowerMeter and pass data to it via infrared. PM will give you dyno readings (fairly accurate to shop dynos from what I've seen on the net). You can also use it to display factory sensor values like injector cycle etc. with the optional harness. Around $700 for the entire set up. Spendy but I think it's worth saving up for... considering dyno runs cost $70 to $100 each visit.

Wobble, I was referring to the TurboXS one yes, and its sponsored drag cars running like 30psi use them so Im sure it is fine for your big turbo application.

And the Blitz unit Paul mentioned is AWESOME. I would recommend that one as well for a more pricey EBC.

well the thing is.. if i just have 2 settings.. in order to get low enough boost in 1st.. ill stangle second.. or ill have to blow up first and have accurate boost in 2nd..

I need something like

1st: 10psi-*
2nd: 10psi till 4000, 4000-5500 13, then 16 to 75
3rd 22... and on...

If i limit myself to just 2 settins (10 psi and 22 psi) ill crawl through 2nd gear..

of course i could just learn to drive too huh:thumb: :p

Switch for what?

If you get the Greddy Profec-B, there's an optional steering wheel mounted switch.

Personally, I'd go with the Blitz combo.

yea, i know.. its $$$, so i went with teh DSBC.. it will get me by for now i think.. ships tommorrow

FYI, I think the SBC-ID is $480 from one of the site sponsors, EDO Performance. Best price I've seen on the net in the last 3 years.

I wasn't talking about the AVC-R or EBCs in general. I was talking about the Blitz SBC-ID.

And, actually, the Apex'i AVC-R may have been the best EBC when it first came out. It's been what? 6 years since it's introduction and it's getting long in the tooth. The AVC-R and the SBC-ID are pretty much neck and neck with the Blitz having a slight advantage in flexibility of installation (compact 1/2 DIN unit) and ease of use. I don't know if Blitz NA still have the PDF manual online, but I looked at it 2 years ago and it is incredibly easy to use and set up. Not to mention once you add the PowerMeter you get a ton of other features.

If someone told you that it's best to cross dress... would you? I think not.

What's best all depends on what you want to do with your car and how much you are willing to spend. Some people want instant gratification... others are willing to save and wait. For some, the best may be a cheap $40 MBC.

eBay = scam city + no support + no warranty.

Are you out of your mind? New SBC-ID for $250? Yeah right. You'd be lucky to find it for $400. The ones on eBay now for around $200 aren't the boost controller. They're the PowerMeter.
