My autometer sender crapped out so I hooked up the gauge to the stock sender. The gauge reads pressure, about 15 psi higher than the autometer sender. However, the stock sender is not as quick in response as autometer one. Anybody had any experience with this?

Well............... No first hand experience, but I'm sure the Autometer gauge is calibrated to be used with one of their senders.

I highly doubt it will be accurate using an OEM sender. I'm a bit surprised it's as close as you say it is.

Your best bet is to just replace the Autometer sender with a new one and try remote mounting it away from severe/direct vibration so it lasts longer for you.

Well......Not to be a hater, but, do you not think maybe I have already thought about all this? I know the easy way, just wanting to see if different things work- thinking outside the box.

I jumped a wire over to the stock sender and let the car idle. Saw stable, but high pressure on the autometer gauge. I hard wired the autometer gauge to the stock sender and went for a drive. It turns out the senders operate inversly. So, at idle, the pressure is high but as the oil pressure increases the pressure reading goes down. So, it will not work this way.

Ya when i did it with my 2g i had been pegged at high.... The are pretty off to my understanding... but if it is only off by a factor you can notice then you should be fine if you know what is right and whats not.

No man, I hear you............... I'm not trying to be a prick either about it. Didn't mean to come through like that.

I'm all for it, if you can get something to work out for you, opposed to buying items that the manufacturers pretty much force you into buying.

It would have been nice if it would have worked out for you.

just for future reference though............... I know I all ready mentioned it, but Autometers pressure senders in general seem to have short life spans when they are subjected to vibrations, etc.

:aha:

I would come up with a line and fittings to remote mount it away from direct vibration of the engine.

Up front it will be a bit more costly, but in the long run the sender will last longer and remain accurate longer too.

So an autometer oil pressure gauge wired to the factory sender will be 15psi higher than the real pressure?
