i've noticed that when i floor it and just keep it floored to the highest gear it seems slower than when i only go about 90% on the gas and right before shifts let off completely then go back to ~90% asap and it seems faster than just having it floored the whole way? i've never got track times or anything but is there reasoning behind this?

The only way to validate this would be to take it to a track.
What you might be experience is a boost leak that is leaking at wot.

If its the actual shifts are sloppy, your end clutches could be going bad. This would also give you trouble when you are trying to get into overdrive. To make the shifts more firm and cleaner, you should also install a shift kit.

Both are pretty cheap and easy.

I just noticed this myself after experimenting. Its because the t25 is a turd and cannot supply the engine with enough air in the higher rpms. So you get less boost. By going only 90% or so, you are still WOT because after 80% throttle the ecu uses the maps. BUT, the TCU doesn't downshift because it uses a different rpm mapping. So you get WOT at a higher gear which equals more boost!

Nice. I'm going to confirm this at the track next time I go.

yea i was thinking something like that, but is it possible my tcu is fed or something? i've been having other issues with it as well. it seems to be more responsive when i let off the throttle and get back on it during shifts i guess.

I had the same problem when I took my DSM to the track. My oil was clogged in my motor, it seemed that every gear I kept going up in seemed slower.

Automatics don't have a T25.

What? WTF

Uh...2g autos do have T-25's. I believe when the TCU senses a WOT, it immediately locks the transmission to the engine. So it might go slow at first but then once in the higher RPMs, it'll be fine. At least for me it is.

I would say your problem has something to do with your air/fuel tunning at WOT vs 90% throttle and nothing to do with your trans. Also, if you want to keep backing off the gas right when the car shifts and then slamming it bakc up to 90% throttle, you will be rebuilding that thing VERY soon. I have had your exact same issues in the past. It has to do with tuning and sometimesTPS adjustment.
