Hey guys,

Well as some of you know I just picked up my GSX. The one thing I hate is the way the stereo sounds. It has a jvc headunit with sony xplode 3 way speakers up front, and the stock rears are disconnected because the headunit only has 2 rca outputs. It sounds pretty bad. I like all types of music and some rap music i can't even turn it up much more than a little past halfway. I just bought the car though and I need to install a much needed wideband ($220 - aem uego) and have to get it tuned, along w a few other things, so money is very tight. I have about $200-$220 in all to spend.

So here we are after consulting with a few audio buffs on here, I am at this point.

I am going to put 6.5 components up front, these:

BOSS DC60.2 6.5" 2-WAY 400W DIABLO COMPONENT SPEAKERS - eBay (item 110313805364 end time Dec-17-08 11:07:28 PST)

a member had those or the 350w (model down) and said for 2 years they are damn good for the price.

I am also going to replace the stock rears, I am debating between a few 6x9 speakers (i know nothing crazy for rears as they aren't really important):

These:

or

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Boss-CH6940-6-x-9-4-Way-Full-Range-CHAOS-Speakers_W0QQitemZ350117459253QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Speakers?hash=item350117459253&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A15|39%3A1|240%3A1318

Anyone able to help me with which ones are the best?

To hook up the rears with the fronts, i am going to have to run a splitter (I KNOW this will take away my fade option, thats fine) So with the splitter cause I only have 2 rca outputs now, I can run the components up front with 1 of the rears mentioned above.

Lastly, as far as sound and weight, I am thinking of adding an infinity BASSLINK - I can get a used 1 in great condition for $90 picked up. So this is pretty cheap i have searched ebay and $90 total is pretty good.

So we have:

$45 for component fronts

$30 for rear 6x9s

$90 for the basslink

and I will need 2 or 4 gauge wire to set it up, and the splitter will be no more than $10.

So that keeps me in the $200 or so range.

Any comments or tips for me?

Will this setup sound far superior to what I have now?

Does anyone have a basslink, comments would be greatly appreciated as I don't know a damn thing about car audio.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

interesting. i DEFINATELY would not get the BOSS speakers. I worked at best buy in the install bay for a year and a half until i came down here to goto college. but anyway, if you're not trying to spend too much, look around for some used alpine type r's. alpines are decent, and good for the price. I have focals' in the front and back, but i also spent over $400 on each set. If you cant afford alpines look into some JL's or CDT Audio. They make good products. Ummm...as far as a splitter, get to the back of the head unit and find the rear speaker wires which are green/black and green and the other is purple, and purple black. Run a 'Line Out Converter' which you can purchase at best buy for nto too much (if you dont want to buy it brand new i can send you one of my extras, just pm me) for cheaper. The line out converter will convert the high level output of the speaker wires to low level output so that you can hook up some RCA's to it. And the rear speakers definately make a difference, so dont put those past yourself. They'll be a bit more expensive but you don't need anything outrageous. The high ranger (tweeters) up in the front of your dash (if you have them) also make a huge difference. The factory amp is alright, i wouldnt worry about that right now.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, just pm me or something
Good luck man, i hope i helped in some way hahaa

My opinion, I'll make it quick. Get a GOOD set of front speakers, the rears are not as important. I have alpine type r all around and they are decently priced and sound decent. I was just in my friends car and his front speakers are the pioneer premier 6.5" components.
And normally I'm not a huge pioneer fan, but OMG these things sounded MINT! Crisp, clear, loud everything you want in a speaker these will deliever. Of course he has them amped now but even without the amp they still sound amazing!

My other friend picked up a set of boston acustics (sp) 6x9s for like $90 from a local shop and they sound really really good. I honestly would do the pioneer components in the front and bostons in the rear, your just over $200 that way and it would sound great w/o a sub.

For a sub, if you don't want anything loud do what I did. I spent $10 in wood and built a box for (1) 8" sub and I have a little alpine amp. Honestly for an 8" sub it puts out plenty of bass. Not crazy to where your going to get a headache, but it's just enough for some bump. I also have some fatmat in my car. You really can't hear just the bass outside the car but you can hear the lows, mids and highs.

I honestly thought going all alpine was the best and I was kind of disappointed in it. If i could do it again, oldschool alpine headunit and pioneer speakers.

reason i ask.. the pioneers are 40 rms, while the boss are 250 rms...

boss specs:
Boss CH6940 6" x 9" Speakers Car Speakers Car Audio and Video - Sonic Electronix

you obviously know dick about audio. RMS is a rating of how much power a speaker can handle before it starts to distort, not necesarily sound quality. As a rule of thumb- you get what you pay for. I think your Sony Xplode's will sound better than those boss speakers and having pioneer components in my Spyder, I decided to rip out the new pioneer premier 6x9's i had in the back because the components are more than enough, here is the setup I run, and it sounds crystal clear, better than anyone elses system i've heard- but most people around here have stock speakers.
Here is my setup
Pioneer Premier DEH-P400ub headunit
The now discontinued Pioner REV series components (Kevlar Cone Silk Tweeters)
Pioneer Premier TS-D902P 6x9 speakers
Pioneer Premier D2100t 2 channel amp x2 one for components one for subs
And I run a bandpass enclosed Jensen sub temporarily, bangs hard not great quality.
No good system will be 200 dollars.

haha if you hit up craigslist it will be. but yes, those boss audio speakers are garbage. Around here, those are what you find at pawnshops and walmart. Like spydermanGSX said, you get what you pay for. Goto best buy, their products are alright and are decent for the price. The pioneers, boss, sony, etc arent very high end but they'll get the job done. If you have an ear for sound quality then you may want to look into something a little nicer, but thats where it gets costly. I use one 10" w6v2 and it bumps very nicely. But a basslink from infinity would also work well for the cost.
And, again...don't use a splitter, spend a little time and use a line out converter
