Attaching shims to brake pads

What does one use to attach the shim to the back of the brake pad? Is there something one might have "around the house" rather than buy a lot to do one shim?

I hooked the bottom two tabs on the bottom of the pad and used a screw driver to bend the top tabs up and my hand to push the shim on.

Four bucks. Go wild. No, you don't have anything "around the house" that'll live under brake conditions.
