I just bought ARP main studs (207-5401) for my 90 Eagle Talon TSi AWD.

I was told that I am going to have to get my block line bored when I installed the ARP main studs, is this true? I really don't know why I would have to because all I am doing is replacing the bolts with studs and using the same torque specs. Any info would be helpful th
 
I beleive its because a stud can put more clamping force at the same torque. And with more clamping force your main caps will distort differantly.

Tighten the up with the arp hardware to factory specs and measure the bore of all of the mains with a caliper or bore gauge in three spots(per main) and see if it is perfectly round.

I am using arp main studs at the factory spec, and I am having a line bore performed, that should be a good idication of my opinion.
 
A line bore should be done regardless what you are doing. Anytime you rebuild a motor you should bore the cylinders, not just rehone, linehone the main cops, polish/turn the crank, deck the surface of the head and block, and balance the whole rotating assembly to ensure a long engine life. That is the proper way. Tearing a motor down and honing it and putting all new parts in is a cheap way of doing it.
 
thanks for the info. i am doing it the right way the block has been decked, honed, hot tanked. the parts i am putting in the motor are wiseco pistons,manley rods and a 2.4 liter crank. also i had the everything balanced. thanks again for the help

Agreed. I'm building my motor right now. The way I see it is if you're already all the way in there why not take the extra time, spend the few extra dollars and do it right rather than having to pay for it later when it fails you.
 
ill tell you. i built my motor that way and my motor runs stronger then it ever did. Plus when you rev. it, My motor doesn't even move in eather direction. it just revs
