When using arp main studs how do you secure the oil pickup? i noticed that none of the arp's have the little threaded part on top (as i assumed they wouldn't), but i never thought of how to secure the oil pickup down until now.

That would be the thing not to do. It is there for a reason and I am not sure how it attachs exactly but I am in the process of reasearching it for ya. Do NOT just cut it off.

i was thinking of just opening up the hole on the support and putting it between the washer and the nut. does that sound like it would cause any problems?

Not at all...That is most likely what I would do and what most other people do.

I just cut my bracket off.

Make sure if you attach the pick-up to the stud, not to put a bind on the point where it attachs to the pump.

I have researched info on this before, and I say just to cut it off. Obviously, the bracket is there for some extra support, but the oil pickup tube itself is decently strong, and really doesn't need any extra bracing or support. I am assembling my 2.3L bottom end this week and I will be simply cutting off the support arm.

I feel its safer to cut off the arm then to cut and add in a spacer or bend the pickup tube itself, then you risk pinching the pickup. Besides, you don't want to add any washers as that would lead to incorrect torque specs.

My 7 bolt doesnt even have a brace. I would not put that support between the washer and the nut. The arp stuff is extremely hard putting a regular piece of metal in there seems to get rid of the advantage of arp's That stamped metal isnt hard enought to take the load of a main cap it seems like it woud give at some point. Just my .o2
