Are these tires too small?

I can get a good deal on four barely used Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s. The only thing is they are 205/45/R16. Is that too narrow for the stock steelies on my Laser? The tires on there now are 215/45/R16. I need all the extra traction I can get, so will these fit? Or even be worth it?

I know that the Lasers like ours came stock with 205/55/16's so i dont see why those wouldnt fit the steelies. :laser: :thumb:

Don't answer if you don't know what you are talking about. Those tires are ridiculously small. This is a performance oriented forum where sometimes the oblivious go for some good advice. Don’t follow a stupid question with a stupid answer.

Those tires will mount to your car, but the sidewalls are rediculously small, but hell you're already using the wrong size right now anyways with your 215/45-16's as it is. The two most common sizes for a 16" tire on a dsm are 205/55-16 which is factory and the next closest is 225/50-16. You shouldn't need a 45 series sidewall unless you're running 245's and you'd need 8" wide wheels to do that.

I could have sworn they were 45s, but possibly not. I'll look tomorrow. So I guess I won't be running these tires from the sounds of it. I'll have to find some cheap 17" rims so I can throw on the Nitto's I can get for $50.

I guess i didnt figure they were that far off from the stock size. My bad, just tryin to be helpful. :laser: :thumb:

Actually, 205/55/16 was a perfectly fine suggestion and I have no idea why wret - who is normally a great source - jumped on you. The ridiculous size was 205/45/16.

Because wret was actually just stating that since the 205/55-16's were factory "those", meaning the 205/45-16's, should fit just fine.

Picture this: Straightlinebob takes a moment away from posting about carbon fiber hoods and billet shift handles to browse ebay for some tires. He spots an unbelievable deal; sixteen inch, awesome tread pattern. Not quite sure of the fit, he posts a quick question in the DSMTuners suspension forum, where he knows those guys talk about tire sizes all day long.

Without taking a minute to search (the clock is ticking on this sweet deal) he posts his question. He doesn’t have to wait long. The answer comes right away. Yes, they will fit.

Bob confidently bids on the tires and gets his post in with only seconds to spare. For only $23 (plus $125 s/h) Bob is the proud new owner of a set of 225/35/16’s!

OK, OK. I get it. It just didn't seem right to kill the guy for answering the question of whether they would fit -- which is one of the questions in the thread-starting post -- just because that wasn't a good question and/or didn't match the thread title.

I'll all in favor of ripping people new ones for asking stupid questions or giving incorrect answers (although I'm trying to cut down on this ;) ). I just think that 99% of the vitriol should have been aimed at the thread-starter. This is, after all, a question that has been answered about fifty times and to name the thread one thing and then ask another is just asking for trouble. Stop the stupid threads and you don't have to correct the stupid replies.

Going further, one thing that I think might be worth trying is to ignore the threads that are repeat questions. If the replies end up being total nonsense, then step in and bash heads, but if the search-impaired want to thrash around for a while, I say let 'em. There is the chance of some really good discussions in the near future when we have data and formulae to play with. While waiting for that to happen, I'd let the Great Unwashed run free. But that's just my opinion. The management might differ.

The problem is that all these teachers are telling kids that the only stupid question is one that isn't asked. In reality that's true, but that doesn't mean that you should go around blindly asking questions instead of doing a little research and usig your own common sense.

Hey I got nothing against teachers, hell my fiancee's mother is one.

Future mother-in-law, eh? Well, then I'd say that you soon will have a problem with at least one teacher. ;)

But we are now way off topic.
