Ok so I've taken apart the bottom end of one of my blocks for educational purposes. I also wanted to see if my digital micrometer was accurate. These are all OEM parts from a 97 with high mileage (but clean). Here are my numbers:

Rod I.D. 51.05mm / 2.01in
Bearings 1.52mm/ .06in
Crank
Journals 48.00mm/ 1.892in

If you start with 2.01 rod I.D. and subtract upper and lower bearing measurements (.06x2=.12) you get: 1.89 which would be impossible given my journal measurement. So what I'm trying to figure out is how far off my mic is. Does anyone have the factory specs on the Rod I.D. and Journal O.D. ?

found 48mm / 1.8898in to be the factory specs, so doing the math again gives me a clearance of .0002... Still doesn't work out... hmm.. maybe I'll just plastigage. Until then, does anyone, by chance, have the I.D. of an oem Rod?

Using the same tool to Mic your rods and crank, IE your ID & OD you would need a surface that is compatible with both, IE your ID tool needs to be like a point.

What tool are you measuring this with?

I'm using a new digital vernier caliper using the I.D. side. Only issue with that is I have to take multiple measurements and average them. I had self centering telescoping tools but with only two points instead of three, I still found them to be off just a bit.
