well i took my talon out for a test drive and it seems hard to shift it into gears and it dont really like down shifting, are all these cars like this or do i have a problem/issue i need to fix....?

hmm.. ... a bit notchy at times... lets just say DSM transmission aren't as smooth as hondas.

Best advice I can give anyone after owning 2 1g's and a 2g DSM....

Stay on your maintenance with fluids and use only the specified fluid.
Change out the rubber bushings because they are junk.
Make sure your cotter pins are cleared of any debris.
Watch those crinkle boots on the shift linkage because they split apart rather easily.
Change your syncros if you're starting to notice a slight gritty feel when you shift into a gear. Especially if it is only when shifting and it goes away when you're in gear.
Keep the moving parts well lubed up.

Other than that, you're against the clock. Our trannys are boxs-o-junk.

mine is doing what alex's is doing, feels like something is stuck there, i changed out the tranny fluid and it helped a little but not much. and eveything else seems fine i changed my bushings and i re lubed everything still feels like something is in the way and a little bite of a pain to shift

For the record. My N/T Eclipse shifts like butter.....After getting out of my TSi I feel like I'm gonna break the shifter on the N/T. Because it's not short-throw, like the TSi, and it doesn't require extra force in shifting, you could shift the Eclipse with your pinky......The 1st gear syncro is going out in the TSi, so it's tricky going into first 10% of the time, and if your moving don't even try without hearing the grind. That's about the only thing I like better about driving the N/T, but the TSi is getting the most seat time right now cause......well, it's alot faster :thumb: and it's not leaking or acting up, knock on wood (maybe I shouldn't drive it today: Fri. the 13th.) I bought the TSi on March 13th, 2009 also a Friday....

My best advice:
Make sure you have all the bolts in your tranny. ALL OF THEM. TIGHT!
Make sure you have both of your transmission dowels in.
I prefer to run straight up syncromesh, just my personal opinion.
Make sure your slave/master isn't leaking.
Ensure the clutch fork is in the correct position (Shimming the pivot ball, look it up)
Make sure you're getting the most push out of your clutch pedal.
Watch this, and learn it.
YouTube - Proper Clutch Adjustment
For the most part, you can make up for bad syncros with a 100% properly adjusted clutch. Trust me, I've saved transmissions by doing all of these.

LOL @ conventional wisemen.

You gotta learn how to drive fast a w5m transmission shouldn't be talked about here anyway the owner has a 2g 420a trans.

Have you checked the fluid in the master cylinder for bubbles/cracks? Changed the clutch recently? Leaking fluid? Floor mat in the way of pedal travel?

All these thngs sound dumb I know, but sadly they are some of the most common killers of a manual trans.

People can hate on DSM transmissions all they want but they are just like any other manual trans. You beat the hell out of them they will break. Plain and simple.

Check your clutch engagement and go from there.

one of the things I like best about my son's Talon is it shifts SO nicely, that is what makes it so fun to drive!
