Anyone with larger cams - did you pass CA smog test?

from what i hear.. there's a shop in milpitas or san jose that'll pass you if you know them or buy them a pack of stogs.. ahha.. i never looked into it.. but i'll ask around again if you need to know... SVP goes to that shop.. and some other local racing teams.. also the local drifters go there.. shouldn't be too hard to find out

That would be me :). 264's on both sides and safc on really lean and a lower fuel pressure. Another guy i knew passed with 264/272.

Good, now I feel better - especially hearing that the 264/272 combo passed. I'm getting the engine rebuilt and I'm trying to figure out how aggressive I can go and still pass.

Your 180k mile engine finally went on you Chris?

Nope - it's still running fairly strong. I'm interested in doing some more hardcore driving next year, maybe some serious autoX and more open track days and I want to have the car ready to handle the abuse. I don't want to have to rebuild it half-way through the year if it does go out.

Reviving this post for an update i just smogged my car this is Californian smog (most stringent in the nation), my mods are on my profile of note i passed with CAMS (Comp 101100) and the car had 91 octane (Chevron) in the tank. I performed Maitenace on the car new oil and New NGK spark plugs. I also put some Chevron Fuel system (the big one for 20 gallon tanks) cleaner in the tank. my car runs good and no CEL has went since the cam were installed.

Here are my numbers
Test RPM %co^2 o^2 HC (ppm)
15mph 2725 14.5 0.1 Max allowed: 54
Avg car: 9

i want to get some cams as well, but smog is what is stopping me. i just recently passed with a t3/t4 50 trim and all supporting mods.. i dont want to push my luck.. i heard hks 264s.. and they dont even sound like they are there (on a 2g) that wont seem hard to pass, but if i'm going to get cams, i want something a lil bit more aggressive. was there any special settings to pass on HKS 264/272s btw i have DSMLink if that will help me out

dsmlink will help out greatly. there was just a guy on the sacramento forums that passed with 272's, gt30 and 720's if i remember.

I passed the emissions pre test basically. My buddy owns a shop so I had him test my car for the hell of it and it passed with my current mods in my profile. No rollors though, I live in a smaller town outside of Sacramento and they haven't brought the wrath of the rollers here. I also had on a brand new cat.

FP2s, stock cam gears

No thanks, I'm running away from the wrath of CA and moving out of state this month :)
Come to MD, if you're 96 or newer all they do is plug into your OBD2 and see if you have any CEL's :thumb: But they will postpone you if you've cleared them within a certain amount of time prior to testing.

I'd just like to add to this thread. I passed my white 1g at a TEST ONLY station and no hook-up with the following mods:

Comp101200's (272/272)
To4b
MAFT
720's
Chip
walbro255
afpr
punishmet 2.5 o2

I passed with numbers so close to average it wasn't even funny. It has to do with 2 things: Tuning, and No rollers :thumb: Although it helps to paint your intercooler piping black I think :p

FP1s here, passed very well.
14b, AFPR, S-AFC, and a new 6 bolt.
