Anyone tinted their own windows?

Anyone on here done it recently or at all and can shed some light on good resources to do it?

How hard is it overall? I'd rather be able to do it myself then spend 800$ getting it done locally.

$800? Some of my local shops run specials where it only costs $100-200 depending on how many windows you want done.

i did it my self on the passenger side and the driver side on my 99 RS, i buy it from Walmart and i use glass cleaner, razor knife and a credit card and it looks better then spending $200 or more, thats easy to do

I am just worried about the hatch window, might be a PITA to tint that thing.

Tinting the windows on a 2G is the easiest car ever to do.. Just take your time.
I would never spend hundreds of dollars for tinted windows, especially because in some states it is illegal and they require you to remove it. Hundreds of dollars down the drain..

Will I need to heat shrink the hatch?

The hatch window is much harder then the driver or passenger windows, but it's far easier then the rear window in a car with a trunk instead of a hatch. All you have to do is open the hatch and sit in to apply the tint. Overall the process isn't too hard to do yourself, but be prepared to redo it a few times if you've never done it before. My recommendation is always to by a roll of tint large enough to do your whole car a few times (only cost like $12 if you shop around). Learn how to do it and then just give it a try. Most people screw up their first few times, but that's why you get such a big roll. Even if you can't ever master it, the worst case scenario is that you blew 12 bucks.

You have to get the window really clean and get all the air out. My sister's GS had a crappy purple tint on the hatch window that wasn't done right. It's either going to look really good or really cheap.

I'm not sure if you guys have a Wal-Mart in Canada, but they have super cheap tint there or at a mainstream auto parts store like autozone, o reillys etc

Yes. There are some great heat shrinking tutorials on YouTube for guidance if needed.

Personally, I got precut tint off ebay and it worked great.

Something like that, Would it fit up perfectly and be pre bent at the proper areas to not need heat shrinking?

The only risk with getting it precut is if it turns out like crap you have to buy more for that same price when for less then that, you can find enough tint to do the windows three times if need be. I just know many people who fail at their first attempt at tinting windows, including me. It is not that hard to master after a few tries though. That's why my recommendation is to get enough to do the car a few times since it doesn't cost anymore anyway. just my .02

I'm curious what % tint some of you are running? I've thought about tinting mine. Not for the look, but because it keeps the car cooler.

well 35 is legal in ontario, canada. but a buddy of mine runs 15% and it's almost too dark. id say between 20-30 is a good number.
