I'm turbo shopping. I keep turning back to this turbo for its price. $889 It seems to have a huge potentual and spools right where I want. Combined with the SP compressor cover and un-devided internal wastegate it looks like one hell of a turbo! Does anyone have one. Thoughts, feelings.. Very limited info via the search button.

I'm looking for an internal wastegate, under 4000rpm spool, 400whp pump gas, use my existing 2g manifold with the **best value per $**

Two thoughts; it probably won't spool that quick on the average dsm 2.0L. Expect it to spool around 4200 with a good tune, which is still good for a turbo that big.
Using an internal wastegate with a big turbo may not give you solid boost control. There are plenty of reports of boost spikes, boost dropping off, and slow spool with internal gates on turbos that size. It all depends on your combination of mods, boost controller, and patience. You may get lucky, might not.

That tubo Doesn't see to be very popular.. I've looked around quite a bit and don't see alot of info, or people running this turbo. There are alot of people runing the GT35 ball bearing model for $500 more. I currently have dsmlink/3.3bar/plxm300/h20/14b on a stock 7bolt head/block/drivetrain/suspention. I might be biteing off more then I can chew with this turbo. It just looks like the potentual per' HP is astounding!

I have a GT3561 w/ SP cover
It deffinitely doesnt spool like a 16g but the top end is great.
I would in no way shape or form even consider this turbo with a internal gate.

I was flying blind with the internal wastegate. Dejonpowerhouse's website said it will spool on a 2.0l aroun 3900 rpm. They were giving away the internal undevided wastegate and SP cover, so I figured why not?

I was hopeing somone was running this turbo. When is full boost threshold on your VR-4?

When people say they reach full boost is always missleading.
They never actualy tell you what rpm they start at, what gear they are in, how many lbs of boost they consider full boost to be.
On my car: In 3rd gear starting at about 3500 rpms I will see full boost (30psi) in the mid to upper 4k prm range.
If you are really intersted in the GT3561 i have been thinking of going to T4 and would sell my whole set up for a good deal.
2g manifold with brandnew 38mm tial mounted to it along with a just rebuilt GT3561 w/SP cover, inline oil filter and a 2.5in tubular 02 housing $1200 for everything.

That's a really good deal.
I purchased a GT3561 turbo and a sbr manifold. I am going to be running an internal gate, the sp cover and the non divided housing. I have yet to install it, but I really think it will do what I'm looking for, whichis about the same as you 400whp on my 2g

Gamble67, When you get that GT3561 in, please remember to keep me in the loop. I'm not as excited about this turbo as I was 3 days ago, but If you get good results please let me know!

I'm about 30-60days out from getting a new turbo. I still need to get 1000cc and Clutch..

Thanks for the info. Thats not anywhere near where I thought I was going to be. What kind of resonce do you get in 2nd? Are you still running your stock tranny?

My tranny is the stock tranny but it was rebuilt a year or so ago.
The car responds great in 2nd gear. I makes full boost in the mid/upper 4k rpm range but is making good power long before that. If you could drive my car one time you would love the turbo. lag is so over rated. I had a 16g set up that I ran 11.4 with. The car had no lag with that turbo but it also lacked top end. The GT35 has some lag (if you dont down shift) But has awesome top end and makes my 16g set up seem week. I could never go back to that no lag having 16g.

be excited man, the turbo is huge, no compressor surge, minimal if any boost creep and it's better than a 14b.
i will for sure let you know

*subscribed* Thanks Gamble97

I would love to go with an external wastegate setup if I had the extra $$. With a family, 2 car payments, my hobby and just life it's not budgetable. I need to utilize my existing manny and o2 housing...

I would in no way shape or form even consider this turbo with a internal gate.

So you think it would be an out right mistake to try and run this turbo with an internal w/g with my mods (profile)

Most definitely.
If you just have a flapper door welded where the wastegate hole ison te turbo like mine then you can keep your 02 housing. But you will need to get a new manifold with a wastegate mounted to it. Mine is just a 2g manifold with a 38mm flange welded on it.

Did you originaly have this turbo setup with the internal wastegate? Then weld it shut and rig up that wastegate on your manny?

Ps. I do plan on replacing my cams with comp2/fp2 cams. What are you running the same valvetrain thats in your profile? ARP? Gaskets? Time to update that thing bud...

No, I had dejon weld the wastegate hole shut when I ordered it so that I could use any 02 housing. I did end up gettng a tubular 02 that also blocks the wastegate outlet hole on the turbo but it isnt needed. I also had them weld a 2.5 in elbow on the turbo outlet.
You can see in this pic how the wastegate is welded shut.

I have HK$ 272`s and 1mm over valves. The rest of the head is stock components.
FP2`s would also work very well with this turbo.

Well, for $889 through Dejonpowerhouse.com I can get the divided or non-divided housing (better with external) with the SP housing. That still leaves me with getting a new Manifold (SBR) with external wastegate source + Wastegate & Dump.... I don't think this turbo is for me...

I think an internal 50 trim might be a better choice for me. I'm really just trying to keep the cost down around 900 total. I'm a little frustrated that no turbo companys have put any sales on their turbos this year. Last year we had AGP RS49's and RS61t's for $699 and PTE BB for $869.

You just have to ask your self how much power you want to make.

well if your not in a rush. I'm hoping to pull the motor this week to put in my other motor/turbo etc.

I'm going to get one this fall after my scholarship check comes in. I'm going to give the internal wastegate a shot before upgrading to an external. I'm still waiting for slowboy's t3 cast manifold to see where it's priced and see some results. I figure my mod path will be FIC 950s, GT3561 SP cover with the high range internal gate from dejon, a feed/return kit with an inline filter, and FP2s or FP2xs if I can swing the springs. Long run I'm looking at the JMFAB mani and converting to a T3 manifold+external/T3 housing. I've seen people post about good power gains, even with just a .63 housing.

With the right porting (oldman style) and the high-range actuator, I think it will hold 22-23 psi well enough. Probably lose 3-400 rpm of spool, but hopefully no creep or wastegate blowout at high rpm.

Damn, just realized I never updated anyone, sorry everyone. Got the turbo in 2 years ago, LOL. LOVE IT. It's basically the same as a scm61.
I started out internally gated and was VERY happy. Then switched to external gate and had to get a new hotside $260+ and I love it even more.
Once it spools watch out. Pulls hard all the way to 8k.
