I removed my entire a/c system today, got the condensor and all hoses and connections out, but I'm stuck on one last thing...how do I remove the compressor from behind the engine without having to pull an axle or the intake manifold? It's unbolted and just laying in there, taunting me. Anyone with experience who could help me out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think I removed the drivers side motor mount bolt and used a jack under the oil pan with a 2X4. You should then get the clearance you need.

the drivers side mount isn't in the way...were you maybe talking about the rear mount underneath the car, and then pulling it out from the bottom? i think i might have to unbolt the pulley that's on the compressor because that seems to be the widest part

No the drives side motor mount. Unbolt it and jack up the oil pan to tilt the engine to give you more clearace and bring it out up top. Also there are no bolts for the compessor pulley.

i unbolted the compressor and pulled it out from up top. i did not remove anything to do it except the lines that are kind of in the way, even then you can still squeeze it through. it looks almost impossible, but it can be and has been taken out from the top without removing anything. I'm proof.
later
PS.. try pulling the pulley end out first, if that clears the rest will as well.

thanks for all the help :thumb: i finally got that stubborn thing out...now the engine bay looks a little less cluttered

i cant manage to get the ac bracket off, i have a smim so i have easy acess and was able to get the compressor out with just removing the uicp and the battery, but the bracket wont come off, when i take my socket wrench to it, the socket just pops out... do you have to use a breaker bar or something? it wont budge

the bracket has 4 bolts, i believe they're 12mm or 14, i was able to get at all of them from under the car with a regular length rachet, but it takes some pushing, they'll bust loose

Pull the driver side mount and get a jack under the engine and you should be able to squeez out the clearance you need

i was able to get the compressor out by simply pulling it up. It took a little wiggling but i squeezed it out.

The breaker bar will help get the bolts broken loose. You will also need to unbolt the driver side stub axle from the block because one of the mounting bolts go through a hole on the corner of the ac bracket. Once removed, you can use some washers to shim the axle mounting bracket to take up for the lack of the ac bracket.

This only applies to awd or fwd that use awd front axles.
