Anybody in Austin, TX area?

Just wanted to know so I can check to see if there are any decent DSM mechanics around here.

I'm a couple hours away in the Houston area. Actually a little closer than Houston. Supposedly there is a new shop here in Houston specializing in DSM's called F.I.S.T. I haven't really checked into them much yet.

I've done lots and lots of stuff to my DSM, pretty much everything done to it, over the past 13 months and have learned tons. Plus, a local shop that I know really well has done all the custom fabricating and a few other things to my DSM, so in a way I have kinda trained them and forced them to learn about DSMs.

If you need anything done I'm almost always up for working on cars, just send me a PM.

i am origanally from austin (south side) i remember a shop on congress south of downtown. it is right next to that old school hamburger joint. they had a real fast gsx there a few years back. it is crossed from that middle school on congress. (fulmore or porter i can't remember)

It would help if you told us what was wrong with your car that way we can diagnose in this thread. This would not only be the correct place for this but would also help you out.

I don't know about Austin in particular, but I do know that it's just a matter of who you know. I kinda have a hook up in my area, and I get my car through. Technically if you live in a major city or one of the adjoining counties, you have to pass a smog test. If your address is beyond those counties, no smog test. But like I said, they're not Smog-Nazi's here.

They just started doing it this year...and to me it seems to be strict. But that was my old car...my DSM passed very good. I think the site for it is Airchecktexas.com... If i have any serious problems, I will PM one of you peoples. But right now, trying to gather money and parts.

i live in ft hood, which is about 45mins to an hour away from austin, about 3 hrs from houston, dont know how far from conroe and whatever else i dont remember, but also it's 2-2 1/2 hrs away from dallas what what, that's where my mom lives so it's easy for me to meet anybody in d-town. i know where rowlett is too. but yea i take my car to two guys here that are dsm majicians and do good work and are cool to hang out with too. we have been starting to do cruises and stuff lately also, so if any of you in the close nearby area want to meet other dsmer's in the ft hood, killeen, copperras cove, harker heights area, we're here. just pm me and i can give you my number and let u know all the info. btw, i would go to austin to help you out too, but i dont know what im doin so i wouldnt be any help. unless you just want an audience, then count me in

Lol thats funny. I dont know if you guys remember or not, I got the $800 clutch replacement, but now the clutch is slipping in 4th and 5th gear, and sometimes there is grinding in 2nd gear(heard 2nd gear synchros are the worst). Could I have worn it out that bad already, hasnt even been a week.

Your clutch shouldn't be slipping in less then a week. Kinda sounds like whoever installed your clutch didn't clean your flywheel or got oil on your pressure plate. I live around the Houston area and if I didn't do all my own work I would take my car to FIST. They are a good bunch of guys that will help out in any way they can.
