97 eagle talon esi with stock rims/hubcaps and factory ride height. Were wanting new rims and tires. Something to either completely fill up the wheel well or leave an inch or 2 so it can be lowered. We dont want the tires sticking out at all. Flush would be perfect. I dont know anything about rims and tires other than they're very necessary . I'm an old dude and this is my sons car. So no gap in the wheel well and tires not sticking out. What size and offset.

One of the perfect combinations is a 17" wheel, 8" wide and an offset anywhere bettween +38 to +42. A 225 tire on that wheel will poke slightly but if you got with a 215 it should be fine. So a 215/50/17 will give the car a great look while filling up a lot of the gap, but also leaving room for a standard lowering of 1-2".

Wheel gap can't really be changed without lowering the ride height of the car, -using a much taller tire to fill the space is not the best solution. A taller tire increases drivetrain stress, decreases torque to the ground and causes a percentage of error in the speedometer for street driven cars.

An 8" wide wheel with a +38mm offset is just about flush wearing a 235 width tire.
