Is there oil in the coolant?

I didnt have any coolant in the reservor so I ran the car and opened the cap to watch the coolant run into the radiator and it didnt seem to look like there was oil mixed in with it.

Thanks Eric

If there is oil in your coolant, it is most likely a headgasket. However, if it just burns off after you start driving (my car does this, but no oil in the coolant), it may just be either rings or valve guides. When these are bad, oil leaks into the cylinder when the engine is off. Therefore, when you start it up, the burning oil causes smoke, but then it goes away once the oil is burned off.
