hey guys, cure my problem will ya?

when im driving my car around it sounds like a diesel...it does it in every gear and i dont know why it does that, any idea?

also, when im just cruisin to a stop my rpm stays @ 2k, then when i come to a complete stop it goes down to 1k rpm but it will rev to about 1,100k rpm and just do that until i take off, any ideas why its doing that? help would be greatly appreciated :dsm:

im not sure about ur prob, but when coming to a stop and engine STAYS at 2k rpm isnt very normal. and when ur at complete stop, your engine SHOULD idle at 750rpm. although idling at 1000 isnt bad, its actually better i think. and the idle flucuating a bit is normal. First, try adjusting your BISS. If that doesnt do anything, check for vacuum leaks. always try those first, because they are usually easiest and are a majority of the time, the problem.

Check your PCV valve, if the hose is cracked it could cause your car to idle high, as for the knocking sound, all I can think of is you are combusting prematurly, try an octane booster just to see if that is the casue, other than that good luck. :dsm:

as for the sound, i have no idea. more detail would be needed.

for example: if im at a stop sign or red light and take off in 1st gear, the engine sounds like a diesel truck. and it does that in all 5 gears. a friend of mine who just bought a tsi said his car sounds the same way and that it may be the motor mounts, but i checked mine and they are fine.

As far as the idle problem check the ISC motor (directions on vfaq.com) and check for boost leaks. Then make sure the throttle plate is closing all the way.
Like everyone has said it is a rather vague description of a sound. Of course we all know what a diesel truck sound like but an area that it is coming from it more helpful. But anyhow I hate people that bi*** and dont at least try and help so.....open your hood and listen for the sound. If the sound seems to be coming from right inside the valve cover then i would say it is lifter tick. It sounds like a baseball card stuck in the spokes of a kids bike while he is riding it. Many cars have this, one fix i have heard of to solve this is using genuine mitsubishi filters, not sure if its true yet. Lifter tick is ok and you dont have to get crazy about trying to fix it. Anyhow hope this helps a bit ...good luck

hey i know exactly what ur problem is my car sounded like a deisel and everything u described was the same and let me guess u lose about 90% of your power right ? and the car doesnt build and boost. right ? well these were my problems all combined well my balance shafts both colapsed and the gears locked up wich cause the car to jump timiing wich cause the "diesel noise and loss of power. if u can hear a knocking nose or a grinding its your shafts its starts with a grinding then goes to a knock to take car of your problem go to WWW.turbotrix.com and order the hks balance shaft eliminator kit then you will probably have to do it yourself i dont think you will be able to find a mechanic that will do that job if u have any more questions email me [email protected]

if you keep driving your car it will turn into a knock and you say the grinding noise is coming from your right side of the timing belt cover get under ur car and listen next to the oil pan you should hear it get very loud if u hear it start to knock like a rod knock then its ur shafts banging around in your block. drop your oil pan and check each shaft with the butt end of a rachet just push it up and down if they move in any direction then you got your problem they should not move at all and check ur pan u might find a chewed up sleeve bearing hit me back tell me what you find i am almost 100% sure thats your problem

You can remove your balance shaft belt and see if your balance shaft bearing is out. I had the same noise and removing the belt stopped the noise. If you have time to do the balance shaft elim kit, do that, but many people seem to not have any problems by simply removing the belt. You can do a search in this forum about removing the belt. Good Luck :thumb:
