Hi all,
I've been having a charging problem with my alternator(s). Originally the problem was oil leaking from my cam seals and getting into my alternator causing it not to charge. Well I replaced the seals and so now there is no oil leaking, and bought a remanufactured alt yesterday and it was charging fine around 13.9 volts till this morning. With the car running I measured around 11.8 volts off the alt post and a good ground. The 80 amp fuse was not blown either. Took the car to get the alt tested while it was in the car and came up with one of my wires from the alt is either broken or not connected very well. It was only making 3.3 amps where I understand it should be making around 60. So anyway my question is, is there a cheap and easy way to get this to charge by bypassing the old wires and running just some new ones to get by? The last day for the track is tomorrow night and its not looking good. Also I'd like to fix this the correct way later, if anyone has any links to schematics that would be great too. PS I have the haynes manual but there isn't a chart for the charging system. Thank you in advance.

so from now on its at 11.8V? if its the last day at the track, i would just go as long as your car starts. but when you buy a refurbished alternator, the place you bought it from should have some kind of warranty to replace it (i know autozone, napa, etc does)

Possible easy or nightmare fix. I would repair the wire. Most likely near the alternator. Test the alternator on the bench and see if it passes. I have seen alternators fail a lot. If wiring you will need a schematic. I recommend a factory manual. You can find them on EBAY once in a while. Test light dvom or signal injector. Some of these are advanced tools, but are sometimes necessary for wiring. What tools do you have at your disposal? Not much help but the best I can do under circumstances. Good Luck

The place I bought the alternator from was autozone and it carries a lifetime warranty so I'll take it back there to get it tested on the bench to know for sure. Im not positive how the voltage regulator works on them but when I measured the output with a multimeter right off of the post on the alternator and a good ground it was the same as at the battery which was 11.8. Belt is not slipping and all that junk. But to Old Mitsu Tech, I will check out ebay to see if I can get a FSM. In the mean time I dont have many electrical tools right here other then a voltmeter. Also, I was looking in the back of the Haynes manual at some of the wiring schematics, but I dont really know how to read them, like what all of the symbols mean so if anyone has any help to offer me in that department or links I'd also appreciate it. Thanks again guys

Zach
